RA is giving away three CD and vinyl prize packs of remastered and reissued cuts by influential British techno trio The Black Dog.
The Black Dog have been there since the beginning. Ken Downie, Ed Handley and Andrew Turner started making music together during the acid house days, going on to release some of the most original British electronic music of the nineties. The Black Dog's first three longplayers, 'Bytes', 'Spanners' and 'Temple Of Transparent Balls’, released between 1989 and 1993 on their own label GPR, are especially prized as blueprints of the emerging British IDM/techno scene. Snapped up by Warp in 1995, The Black Dog's reputation as pioneers alongside the likes of Richard D. James and Autechre was just kicking in when, sadly, the original trio decided to split, with Ed and Andy going on to form the successful IDM act Plaid.
This year Scottish techno institution Soma Recordings have raided the vaults of the pre-Warp Black Dog catalogue, repressing remastered versions of their first three EPs on vinyl including the classics 'Virtual', 'Techno Playtime' and 'Cost II'. Earlier this year they also compiled the 'Parallel Squelch', 'Vanttool' and 'Techno Playtime' EPs onto a double CD titled 'The Book of Dogma', and this month, they've also reissued their first album 'Temple Of Transparent Balls'.
To celebrate the rerelease of these Black Dog goodies, the lovely peeps at Soma have given RA three bundles of all five remastered releases to give away. Each lucky winner will receive:
- 'Techno Playtime' 12"
- 'The Cost'12"
- 'Virtual' EP
- 'The Book of Dogma' CD
- 'Temple of Transparent Balls' CD
The original 12"s of some of these releases are now changing hands for upwards of £120 a pop on eBay so you know it'll be good for you. All you have to do is simply answer the crafty question below.
