Omid Nourizadeh is better known as Omid 16B – a DJ whose passion for cutting edge dance music is unrivalled. As a DJ and producer, songwriter, musician and label boss, Omid has forged a unique and prolific career as one of the world’s most talented and respected musicians.
Growing up in London, with Persian roots, Omid was influenced by the likes of Jimmi Hendrix, The Cure, Depeche Mode and The Mission and throughout his teens became an accomplished musician playing in his own band. Gradually Omid’s tastes became increasingly dance – rather than rock – focused and, in 1994, he made the pivotal step of setting up Alola Records.
In addition to his large global fan base, Omid enjoys major industry support from the likes of Sasha and Carl Cox to Danny Tenaglia and Robert Smith (The Cure) as well as John Digweed, Danny Howells, Sharam and Dubfire. Producing under a number of pseudonyms including 16B, Phaser, $16 Million Dollar Man and Omid 16B, it was under his ORN moniker that Omid made his first major breakthrough when he signed ‘Snow’ to BMG Deconstruction. He then subsequently signed his debut album (‘Sounds From Another Room’) to Eye Q. The hit single ‘Water Ride’ – which was performed live on Channel 4 in the UK television - was included on his debut album and further LPs followed for Under The Counter and Hooj Choons (‘How To Live 100 Years’). Omid achieved further commercial success when he collaborated with Richard Morel on the hit single ‘Escape (Driving To Heaven)’.
With an impressive discography of singles, LPs and compilation albums released on his own imprints (Alola, Disclosure and SexOnWax) as well as signed to the likes of Hooj Choons, Yoshitoshi and Ministry Of Sound, Omid has maintained the highest quality throughout his prolific career. He has also earned a reputation as an industry innovator and has always been at the forefront of experimental release strategies for his material. In collaboration with DJ Magazine, he was instrumental in launching ‘Face Off’ – one of the first and most successful cover mount CD series – and more recently included a cover mount CD with DJ Mag that featured part of his ‘Like 3 Ears & 1 Eye’ LP. At the time, this experiment shocked the dance community but, by reaching over 35,000 fans across the UK, it acted as a unique promotional tool for the album, which was subsequently released digitally on SexOnWax. Omid’s most recent compilation project (‘Sounds Like Alola – Vol.1 : Mixed By Omid’) is out now, on his own Alola imprint, as is ‘Sounds Like Alola – Vol.2 : Mixed By Demi’. Further installments of the ‘Sounds Like Alola’ album series, mixed by the likes of Pete Moss and Oliver Moldan, will soon be available soon alongside a host of singles both Alola and SexOnWax.
From a remix perspective, Omid has put his touch to artists such as The Cure, Gus Gus, Danny Howells, Halo Vagra, François Kevorkian and Pete Moss and his latest productions include an EP for John Digweed’s Bedrock label (‘Rain/Passion Of Zorro’), ‘The At Night’ EP on Alola and the acclaimed ‘Sequential EP’ series which was released on his SexOnWax label during 2010. In addition to his solo work as a DJ and producer, Omid has also taken the leading role in developing a successful and creative partnership, with Desyn Masiello and Demi Hajigeorgiou, that is better known as SOS. Over the past few years Omid as toured the world with SOS, working their unique inimitable DJ shows to promote their best-selling compilations for Ministry Of Sound (‘MOS pres. SOS’) and Stomp (‘The SOS Collective – Balance 013’). SOS have also held a long-standing residency at Ministry Of Sound (London) and are widely recognized as one of the most technically gift and forward-thinking DJ collectives in the world. While SOS will be performing at a selection of major festival over the summer, Omid is now focusing once more on his solo work.
As a DJ, Omid maintains an a busy international schedule and has recently toured extensively throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia laying down his intelligent and enchanting sets that blend together everything from sexy deep house through to dark yet soulfully emotive techno and electronica. Omid aims to develop a real connection with his audience during his sets and this connection that inspires the performance and brings out the best reaction on the dance floors. Sponsored by industry giants such as Pioneer, Ableton, Focusrite, Roland and Native Instruments he has all the tools to make this happen and as a form of expression, Omid’s DJ sets are emotive and passionate. He is a true showman!!
