Biography of 2rip | | | Real name / | Chad Bozzarelli | | Moniker(s) / | DJ 2rip |
In 1991 2rip aquired a compilation called Rave Anthems Vol. 1 which featured songs like "Energy Flash" by Joey Beltram as well as "Mr. Kirk's Nightmare" by 4 Hero. He collected compilations such as this and spliced songs together using the dub option on a reel to reel cassette recorder, filling in the breaks with AM radio samples. By 1996 2rip had produced his first full length live mix using Rebirth which was a technology that eventually opened to the doors to programs like Reason.
During the mid-to-late nineties 2rip hosted some of the most memorable parties in his high school region, attracting partygoers from upwards of an hour away. These parties alternated between his garage and a local farm. It was these parties that he used to introduce his friends to techno. By the height of the nineties 2rip had promoted raves heavily throughout his school. The popularity of events had reached a record high and it soon seemed like everyone knew how to find a rave - through him. By the start of his colege years he took event hosting to the next level and entered the full-time dj circuit. He hosted massive events under the guise of a college networking club. His events were sold to the state as being hip hop parties but when the sun went down the volume of the house music went up while thousands of partygoers would line up at the venue to wait for a ticket. 2rip soon relocated to Penn State University whre he finished his college years promoting his first nightclub which catered to house, trance and drum & bass called Release @ Bar Bleu.
2rip had risen to a level of stardome between Pittsburgh & Cleveland and by 2002 he became bi-monthly resident at Pittsburgh's largest nightclub - Groove. This opportunity skyrocketed his career as he immediately began accepting offers from production companies across teh country to headline events. After his first national tour he learned the varying tastes in music from one city to the next. He learned to incorporate a variety of genres into sets such as progressive house, funky house, oldskool and techno. His skills constantly remained in check as he competed frequently in DMC-style turntablism & mixing battles.
After college 2rip relocated to Washington DC to pursue a career with Buzzlife Productions, however he ended up as a lead promoter for Upfront Industries, host to a broken beat weekly event featuring both breaks, dubstep, downtempo and drum & bass. He was still a regular feature as the Buzz events at Nation Nightclub for two years, leading up to the club's final closing.
After the shutdown of Nation Nightclub, 2rip launched District Ignition. The crew hosted events at nearly every major clus in Washington DC, eventually solidifying a roster of three weekly events which includes the city's largest dance party - GLOW. The GLOW roster has featured the largest acts in the world such as Benni Benassi, Tiesto and AVB and was ranked as one of the top 6 clubs in the country by The 2009 Club Awards.
When he is not taking care of business in DC, 2rip maintains a full-time booking schedule that allows him to push his sounds across the nation. Between 2008-2009 2rip played over 90 shows, one of which was the 2008 DANCE4LIFE Benefit which raised funds as a charity for AIDS/HIV research. DJ 2rip's style of techno incorporates fast-paced, technical mixing with distorted vocal layered over funky, yet driven drum oriented tracks, paced around 126-132 beats per minute. DJ 2rip has honed his style to represent the flavor of his Washington DC hometown while inspiring listeners as he pushes the envelope of creativity each time he sets foot in the dj booth. |
