Alex Traska [Myhouse-Yourhouse] November 2010

You can listen to (and purchase) all the tracks charted here by visiting my chart page over at Juno Records: http://www.juno.co.uk/charts/dj/362541-Alex_Traska_Myhouse_Yourhouse/447671-Chart/

1. RECLOOSE - Early Works Sampler Part 2/2 [i]Rush Hour
Last month's chart featured part one of this sampler, and now this months second installment takes rightful place once again at the top of the chart. Recloose is an incredibly versatile producer and remixer earning respect from the likes of Roots Manuva, Tyler Askew and Dizzee Rascal. It's a fortunate pleasure that Rush Hour have seen fit to collect some of his earlier productions that I missed first time round. The lo-fi grit of "MYM230" and "Antares" sits so well will today's resurgence in fuzzy-edged detroit house that it's hard to imagine these are re-releases and makes one realise that Recloose really is a leader in his field.

2. GERD - Friendly Fire Royal Oak
Record shopping in physical record stores is a rare opportunity nowadays, especially since all of Nottingham's outlets for new vinyl have closed (RIP Funky Monkey & Selectadisc). A recent trip to London alleviated this craving and a few releases missed earlier this summer were uncovered. Dutch producer Gerd, also known as Amplified Orchestra, has whipped up a tranquil yet dancefloor-friendly deep house number here that'll be on heavy rotation at forthcoming appearances. B-side "Vibration" furrows its brow and gets on with some stomping lo-fi business, heavy on the bass end.

3. TORNADO WALLACE - Whispering Twirl Delusions of Grandeur
A current darling of the deep house world, record label Delusions of Grandeur (DOG) has been shifting plenty of units (during a time in which some top deep house records sell only 1000 units globally) and earning spots high up on the charts of many DJs. First surfacing during 2008, they've championed the slow-house nu-disco sound and the quality of their releases has picked up significant pace recently. The DOG podcast is worth a listen each month to hear was heat will be dropping next. Look out for the digi releases too as they often feature remixes not on the vinyl!

4. PARIS UNDERGROUND TRAX - Vol 1. My Love Is Underground France
A rising star in the French house scene is responsible for this release, but I'm probably not allowed to say whom. Suffice to say, the quality and style surprises me not one iota. Proper old-skool garagey US house reminiscent of early Kerri Chandler is brilliantly put together and sure to tear up some dancefloors. This record pretty much sold out instantly at every shop that carried it and is probably going to exchange hands for reasonably large sums in months to come. My only gripe is that they've cut the vinyl to play inside-out...it's not cool, it's just annoying.

5. A MADE UP SOUND / 2562 - Demons A Made Up Sound Holland
The cross-over between dubstep and minimal-sounding house is stronger than ever and seems to be a fertile landscape for some really dark productions. It's now necessary to scour both bins in the record store as it's little surprise there's confusion over how to classify the tracks! Big up to Red Rack'em who put me onto this release.

6. JAY HAZE - Bittersuite Sessions Finale Sessions France
Purveyors of gloriously refined and gorgeous-looking deep house, Bittersuite, come up with the goods once more. I've yet to hear a track associated with Bittersuite that I've not liked. My favourite on this EP "Dog Control" is a perfect representation of Bittersuite's typical style with sawtooth stabs and percussion clearly inspired by the likes of Ron Trent. I'm fairly sure that the title of this track has something to do with a nasty fight between the producers' dog and another dog in the local park! Matt Pond of Bittersuite has a show on Myhouse-Yourhouse radio on Monday nights...check it out at www.myhouse-yourhouse.net

7. KUNIYUKI - Set Me Free Mule Musiq Japan
Jazzy and laid back house here from a well established label. A-side "Set Me Free" is a spacially massive sounding track with a relentless conga groove set against a dreamy backdrop. "Storm" on the flip lightens the mood with a sublime picked muted guitar and cool square-wave synth lead.

8. JULIO BASHMORE - Batak Groove Soul Motiv
Another pick from the Dubstep box that's actually more housey. Basically a sick percussion work out with some big ethnic sounding drum, cowbells and clicks set against a slowly decaying tuned 909 kick-drum that provides the bassline. Nothing more. Nothing less.

9. RONDENION - Beginning of the Ring EP Bosconi Extra Virgin Italy
Responsible for some truly wonky and brilliantly grimey sounding house/nu-disco, Rondenion smashes it again with his latest release. Each track featuring some heavy disco-samples minced up with crunchy hi-hats and served on fried vinyl. Happy music with a dirty face.

10. HIZATRON - Von Glooperstien Berkane Sol
Acid house has enjoyed a marginal resurgence of late and this release comes straight out of Nottingham-based Berkane Sol label, run by massive Dubstep/Grime producer GIOM. The only digital release on this months chart, this tracks unusual combination of a metronome style rhythm gives a surreal clock-work rhythm for the 303 acid bassline/lead that totally dominates the track and hopefully the dancefloor!

Finally got round to publishing charts again! My Juno chart will concentrate on the new releases I've been picking up. I'll also be posting full charts including old favourites from the disco, soul, funk and house vault regularly on the new "A Spaceship" project page.

Recently teaming up with Neil Quinn [Peg, London], a guest at various MHYH events over the years, we've pooled our collective taste and spent a balmy Sunday evening putting together a joint mix in preparation for some joint bookings coming up over the summer.
