The track is now available as a free holiday download, but Byallo asks that you please support the artists by buying the Pubahs' new three-part remix series of the timeless track. Inspired by a left-of-center take on dance and a primal urge to create music more personal than your standard nightclub fare, Bad Animal is an independent imprint founded by Berlin-based, California native DJ and producer Alland Byallo. Born out of a hunger to explore the more experimental sides of dance without straying too far from the music’s purpose, Bad Animal’s mission is simple: to release emotional, soul-baring house and techno that is mindful of yet never restricted by the dance floor. Informed by the desire to create more intimately, the label’s output will focus on original productions and remixes from Byallo and a close-knit group of friends. Furthermore, a primary focus of the imprint will be the regular submission of profits to the World Wildlife Fund, with long-term intentions of developing a network of like-minded entities, organizing and coming together to spread positivity via our music.
Formally trained as a musician in his youth and later inspired by early electronic sounds of the 90s, today Alland Byallo is a tour de force within the club and underground music scenes. Having gained global attention producing for definitive labels like Poker Flat and Liebe*Detail, hosting San Francisco’s legendary [KONTROL] party and performing at world-famous venues like Berlin’s Panoramabar and Watergate, and Detroit’s annual DEMF, Byallo looks forward to showcasing his more private side through Bad Animal; expect more organic productions, vocals and raw emotion.
The label’s intimate feel is realized in the title track of its inaugural release, “Thirsty Eyes,” an evocative song about a pained, passive aggressive young woman who is oblivious of her own condition. Built upon a sinister bass line and raw, soul-drenched vocal, this lo-fi tune builds to an eerie yet frenzied crescendo then explodes into a percussive workout perfect for peak time. Remixes from the wildly in-demand techno trio dOP and Berlin-based house producer Adam Port explore the darker and more upbeat sides of the tune, respectively; dOP drops a spacey, acid-laced, psychedelic monster while Port gives the tune a pounding, house-y workout. Finally “Open Windows,” Byallo’s other original piece, pays homage to the past with a look towards the future; this bass-heavy techno/house tune opens with an old-school build-up then chugs along accented by an ethereal vocal and energetic stabs designed to get the dance floor moving.

Mon, 05 Sep 2011  /  Post a commentSimply put, Alland Byallo is a work-a-holic. Out of his three different series of DJ mixes available for free download, Churn, Teeth and Hotpoint, the latter has been the best received and has fans constantly asking for more. Dedicated to the dance floor-oriented side of his range as a DJ, Hotpoint.04 packs a healthy session of underground house and techno music, free for your listening pleasure.
Byallo, raised in Los Angeles and refined in San Francisco, now calls Berlin his home. Having made his mark with his wildly successful [KONTROL] parties in San Francisco as well as with his consistent output for fine labels such as Poker Flat, Liebe*Detail, Dirt Crew, Room With A View and many more, Byallo now holds tight to plans for a new imprint of his own. The cat is still somewhat in the bag, but rest assured, the label's release schedule already boasts a solid family of amazing producers and stunning, unique music.
Enjoy this mix, and don't miss the opportunity to catch Byallo in the DJ booth.
