Biography of Appo | | | Real name / | Alan | | Moniker(s) / | Appo, Appozone, Appodzone, The concept, Brothers love earwax. |
Appo began his love of playing and making "Tunes" at an early age, born into a family of musician's it was always to be that Music would be in his blood. When most kids his age were taking Action men and Lego to primary school, Appo was taking his much loved "Roland SH101" and playing T.V and Film scores in an "Acid" style.
By middle school Appo was already earning a living from touring with bands across the north of england, he appeared with the band "Kimosabe" on the legendary T.V show "The Tube".
His passion was and still is, Soul. A major influence to how his music taste would be shaped would be his brother Mark, 5 years older and a true soul fanatic. he would bring home records from Wigan casino and record fares and Appo would not only listen to them over and over but he would re-create the Hooks and make "versions" of all the big records from those legendary all nighters.
It was at an early age Appo was given a double cassette recorder and by Multi bouncing from cassette to cassette his love of recording and playing music really took hold.
As the early days of U.K Electro and breakdance broke, Appo could be found with his pals breaking popping and locking in the area for kicks (and loose change outside working mens clubs).
The late 80's Acid house explosion hit the Uk and Appo was one of the first "Up north" to begin spinning the sounds, and more often than enough was "sacked" from clubs because of the fears of ignorant club owners and the pressure layed upon from the Media. Little did they know that in years to come it would be this "Dance" music that would be filling clubs across the land.
Finger constantly on the pulse of the latest sounds and vibes he would travel to the big specialst record shops such as hitsville in Newcastle, 3 beat in liverpool and eastern bloc in Manchester in search of the next big tunes, and for over 2 years owned and ran +8 records in Middlesbrough.
As well as being a much in demand jock in the north east of England, Appo was still working hard in the studio and released many a 12" from various collectives he and Freinds formed.
Over the years Appo has worked alongside most of the big names including, MAW, Roger sanchez, C'J mackintosh, Paul okenfold,Pete Tong, Danny rampling, Mike pickering, Graham Park, Carl cox, Kelvin Andrews, Dr LX patterson to name but a few, chances are if you name a Jock, Appo has worked alongside.
Recording credits include (besides his solo projects) collabs with Al Mckenzie (D:ream), Brandon Bloc, Andy Roberts and many more.
Appo quit the jocking side of things for over 10 years as the days of the "super clubs" raped the underground music scene and as Appo see's it the only way to get airplay was to be signed to a label that the radio Jocks ran. He has never stopped composing, recording and re-editing and at this moment in time he has never been so "on-fire" in the studio. cranking out the re-edits he plays at his regular nights he is back behind the decks for the love of Music and not for the £££'s signs.
