Biography of Bangana | | | Real name / | Bangana | | Moniker(s) / | Sumo |
The people behind the Bangana-disguise are Combo and Alf Tumble. If you’re not familiar with these two gentlemen you may have heard of their other project called Sumo, which they started back in 1999. The Sumo-sound developed from jazzy, deep house, via Afro-Latin, to their present sound of eclectic, dirty disco. With major releases on Africanism, Soulfuric and remixes for Compost and Wall of Sound, they have definitely created a name for themselves.
While Combo and Alf went more and more eclectic and experimental with Sumo, they decided to create an alias for their deeper numbers. In early 2005 they created Bangana as an ouput for these late-night house ambitions. The first release was signed by British label Cr2. Shortly therafter they started their own imprint Heya Hifi.
The buzz around the Bangana-sound has now, four years later, made them highly sought after as remixers and djs. Their crossover hit-remix of Clarisse Muvemba’s Roses found many fans around the world among all kinds of djs. While we think that Bangana has a very unique and consistent sound, we are quite sure of that we’ve only gotten a “hint” of what these guys are capable of. |
