Biography of Bella Sarris | |
“It was a hot day, and humid enough so that a deep breath felt like a lung full of cold fire. Daylight was just a memory of the purple sky by the time we entered Space, not the black void surrounding our small blue planet but the infamous music Mecca in the outskirts of Ibiza town; but one thing’s for sure regardless, both were full of stars tonight. It is the summer of 2009 and this is the night that i will discover Techno Music”.
Like all good epiphanies, that particular night unlocked an insatiable greed for more; that night is when Bella Sarris’s quest for the ever elusive electronic holy grail was born and she’s been spinning her way (barefoot) to the truth ever since.
Bella couldn’t afford her first set of turntables, so she fashioned a set of mock CDJ’s out of old Doc Martin shoe boxes and stood in front of the TV every night and mimed Loco Dice festival sets to her family until they bought her equipment just to make it stop.
With hardware finally in her hands she was on the way to emulating her hero’s and after a Villalobos sound-tracked one minute movie montage of fist pumping, crowd pointing and over-exaggerated head nodding, she was now ready to grab her headphones and hit the pavement.
Within a few hours of walking the late night streets alone she came to the conclusion that she needed something else, something which would catapult her into straight into the impenetrable realm of the techno alumni…and then, like a bolt of lightning it came to her “I am going to murder David Guetta!”*. After an intensive six month campaign, she finally tracked him down. He was impervious to bullets, stabbing, hanging, insults, online taunts and crushing but she finally took him down by poisoning his croissant.
*no sellout French house music producers were harmed in the making of this semi-fictional back story.
When news of this great victory reached Techno Viking (the god of all things techno), the gigs started flowing in faster than cask wine at a teenage house party.
History will tell you that Bella’s first paycheck went straight back to the venue, as punters were overheard saying that she ‘tore the roof off’ and via hearsay she was liable for all potentially imagined damages, so if you ever see Bella with her hands in the air, it’s likely that she is just following the courts orders and testing the structural integrity of the room.
After a further few impressive support slots she was given the opportunity to play in the Cave at the Chinese Laundry, and before you could even say ‘Whoa! Is that a chick playing?’ she was asked to become a full time resident.
Further offers followed from House Inspection at the Civic Underground and Envisage Events, and before year’s end she had played alongside Marc Romboy, Jody Wisternoff, James Holden, D.Ramirez, Tiefschwarz, Nick Warren, Infusion, Radio Slave, Loco Dice and Bart Skils just to name a few.
Currently juggling her weekly schedule with a Bachelor of Audio Production at SAE, the young bass addict has her sights set on a bright future in the Australian tech house scene, and even though her father always wanted her to be an astronaut millionaire, she doesn’t have any time for that nonsense.
