Ben started his career playing early House and Rave in the summer of 1989 at local venues across South East Essex, England. The scene was evolving rapidly and by 1991 Ben could be seen playing at venues and pirate radio stations across Essex and East London. The scene started to split at this time with the emergence of drum n bass and Jungle firing the Rave scene into new heights and Ben continued to be forefront to this scene in Essex. During these early years Ben was known as DJ Chill'm and was producing with a local blues artsist Pete Simpson.
By 1995 Ben had changed his name and left the rave scene behind in favour of the underground House scene in London. With his first London residency at EST in SOHO, Ben started on the journey that has seen him play with some of the worlds best DJ's at London's best venues. With regular gigs at Bar Rumba, The Retreat, Buzz bar, Po Na Na, Zanzibar, Pool Bar, Mother Bar, 333, Buffalo Bar, Turnmills, The Fridge, Clapham Grand, Harvey Wallbangers and many more.
By 1997, Ben has secured residency at Covent Gardens "Detroit Bar", playing 6 hour sets every Friday with special guests including Damian Wilson (CR2) and Phil Youngman (Distance Records). During his 6 year residency Ben had the pleasure of hosting the London Fashion week parties, Radio 1 Christmas Party and many more events at this special venue. It was also during this time that Ben Joined Intermedia, plugging new music to TV, Radio and Clubs, looking after some of the worlds best music artists. Using his contacts at Radio 1 Ben forged his way into the forefront of London clubland.
In 2002 Ben joined Favouritizm, Favourite DJs, Favourite Tunes. It was here that he started to really make his name, spinning alongside legends Marshall Jefferson, Robert Owens, Terry Francis, Tom Middleton, Mark Moore, Shades of Rhythm, Digs & Whoosh (DiY), David Dunne, Jeremy Sylvester, Joey Musaphia, Guy Williams, the Sharp Boys, Ashley Beadle, Lewis Dene, the Yoozs Boys and many more. At this time Ben was DJing at Funkshoppe, the Pool Bar, Turnmills, the Retreat, Mother Bar, Herbal, 333, Buffalo Bar, Po Na Na, whilst producing with Azuli Records, Jeremy Sylvester. They formed Real Fruit, producing 3 tracks before Ben moved on to his solo project.
Along with Favouritizm head honcho Sarah Foote, Ben took to the airwaves with their weekly Favouritizm Show on Trust the DJ (www.trustthedj.com). Broadcast live for 10 weeks, guests included Robert Owens (Ill be your friend), Chad Jackson (Hear the Drummer get Wicked), Marshall Jefferson (The Godfather of House), Pete Heller (Farley & Heller), Terry Francis (Fabric), Tom Middleton (Jedi Knights) Rob Mello (Azuli) and Soulsonics Stuart Patterson.
About the same time Ben was also resident at Soho's Summerhouse a monthly event with a summer feel playing with the likes of Boy George, DJ Paulette, DJ Disciple, Guy Williams, Jeremy Sylvester and Seamus Hadji. This was his most exciting residency yet .
Other events included Bashful (Pool bar, Shoreditch), Herbal (Shoreditch), Le Grand Oeuf (Moles Club, Bath), Ride (Plymouth), Funkshoppe & Better Days (the Retreat, Islington), Abigail's Party (Soho, London), Po Na Na (Highbury, London), Mother Bar (333, Hoxton), City Loud (Turnmills, London), Gatecrasher (Heaven, London) with vocal house legend Robert Owens.
Since arriving in Perth, Ben has guested at various venues, held residence at 'The Avenue', Claremont and 'We Love Sundays' at the Eurobar, Northbridge. He has appeared at Geisha for US House Tribute, Soulful Sessions and Trash 'n' Treasure with Steve H, Democracy @ Bar Open (Âme & Justin Martin) and plays weekly at Box Deli and Rubix.
