Biography of Carlo Gambino | |
Having spent time on the dance floor as a regular clubber, just dancing to the records wasn’t enough, at 17 Carlo bought his own turntables and that’s when the love of all things ‘House’ began. It became very clear from an early age that music would play a major role in Carlo's life; for over 20 years his father has worked in the music industry, touring with successful artists such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, Take That, Rod Stewart, so it came to no surprise that he wanted to follow a similar path.
In 1994 whilst studying media/music at college, Carlo promoted his first night called ‘Play Your Cards Right’ in Birmingham. Then in 1995 Carlo moved to Newcastle where he gained his first residency at ‘Nice’ and also hosted a weekly radio show on ‘Nice FM’. After a year in the North East Carlo decided to move to Leeds to continue with his degree in Multimedia Technology and pursue his career DJing. Carlo then held a residency for 5 years at the infamous 'Speedqueen' at the Warehouse in Leeds.
In 2001 Carlo started a new night in Leeds called ‘Hunky Dory’, this was a great success; he aimed to provide an inexpensive night with quality music and a house party feel. After 6 months Carlo decided to change direction and host regular one-off themed events, this resulted in the legendary boat parties on the ‘Prince Bishop’ in Durham.
DJing has taken Carlo all over the UK and Europe; he has played in Italy, Ireland, Holland and Ibiza, Carlo has graced the decks at many of the UK clubs which have included Back to Basics (Leeds), Sankeys (Manchester), The Empire (Middlesborough), The Bomb (Nottingham), The Archers (London) to name but a few.
Carlo gained the ‘Raw Talent’ title from IDJ Magazine with his mix ‘Talk is Cheap’; this mix received rave reviews from the judges:
"This is very deep and bubbling. It progressed nicely, clearly a lot of thought has gone into this - it will be great to hear a full two hour mix from him." (Deepgroove)
"I like this. It's got a great flow and has obviously been well thought about." (Riva Starr)
"I love anything that starts off creatively, and this works a treat. As far as the stripped back druggy mixes go, this is a pretty perfect trip." (Jody Wisternoff)
In 2009 he also won a place that secured him a slot at the well respected 'Sneakerz' Music festival in Holland. Carlo was selected from 500 DJ’s to play alongside some of the world’s leading players; this is a big date in the Dutch clubbing calendar every year.
Having entered the world of production over 8 years ago, Carlo has had a string of releases on various labels from around the globe on labels such as Papstec, Look Ahead, Presslab, Heartbeat Revolutions, Electronique, Evasive, Aenaria, Area38 and 3am Recordings.
Releases for 2012 are looking good with tracks forthcoming on Itchy Pig, Disport, and Kaluki Musik so far.
In late 2011 Carlo Launched his very own digital imprint called ‘Midnight Social Recordings’. Now onto the 2nd release the label is going from strength to strength, with artists such as Al Bradley, Joe Morris, Denney, Luke Gibson, Invisible Menders, Tim Weeks , Ruben F already releasing on the label with great reviews. 2012 is set to be even a better year for the label, not only releasing quality house music but also hosting several label parties up and down the country.
