Corrugated Tunnel's album project "Minor Obsessions" started off last year with the release of "Remedy For My Soul", graced by the wonderfully soulful voice of Antoinette. The album was received very well, and so were the further singles with remixes from Norman Nodge, Orlando Voorn, Donnacha Costello and Chymera.
It's now time to round off this album with a final single "The Rejection", which again features Antoinette, and has an equally impressive set of remixes. For the first remix we travel to The Hague in the Netherlands, home town of Process' label maestro Herman, but more importantly also that of Legowelt. Danny's "Casio RZ1 Old School Remix" turns the track into an up-tempo Italian-disco-meets-Chicago track, which rocks on somewhere between Moroder and Rebotini.
For the second remix we travel to Cork, home town of Tunnel man Edwin James himself, but also of Fish Go Deep. Greg and Shane dedicate their remix to the legendary Sir Henry's club in Cork, where they started their career back in 1992.
Instrumentals of the original, and of the Fish Go Deep remix are part of the package, as is the Accapella (but not in this promo package).
Also watch out for Edwin's remix of D:ream's new single "Sleepy Head", due for release this Summer.

"Transist" is the closing track from Corrugated Tunnel's critically-acclaimed third album "Minor Obsessions", released on Process Recordings late last year. It will now be released as the third single from the album, with remixes by three prominent Irish DJ/Producers.
First up is Minimise label founder and owner Donnacha Costello, delivering an completely reworked track that transcends genres from Techno to Deep House. Chymera, who has been very prolific in 2010 with releases on prestigious labels such as Cocoon and Connaisseur, stays closer to the original but moves it more into dancefloor territory. The third remix is from Mark O'Sullivan, who has been a regular contributor on Process Recordings as a solo producer (Check out his 2009 release "Relapse"), as a remixer and as part of DK7. Mark adds a haunting vocal sample for his "Bliss Mix".
The original album version completes this all-Irish affair for "Transist", to be released on vinyl and digital in March 2011.

Threadbare (Process)
A bumper week, this, for elegiac computer music. Threadbare, featuring Martin McCann, once lead singer of Dublin band Sack is precisely the kind of electro ballad - grave, wintry, crying out for a moody, pretentious video shot in Minsk – that Hurts would make, if they weren't such careerist pop tarts. Norman Nodge's Berghain mix, eight intense minutes of dub techno inflection, is glorious.

Threadbare features the vocals of Martin McCann
The next single from Corrugated Tunnel's excellent album "Minor Obsessions" is "Threadbare". It is one of the most ear-catching tracks on the album, with haunting vocals by Martin McCann, former lead singer of Dublin band Sack. The release will come with two very special remixes, which both stay true to the original version, but each of them taking the track in a different direction.
Orlando Voorn was one of the first Dutch musicians to establish a vital connection between Detroit and Amsterdam, and has long been recognized as one of The Netherlands' most original and inventive producers in the world of electronic dance music. He has been releasing music for two decades, under his own name, but also under a long list of aliases. He released Corrugated Tunnel's "Distant Sounds" and "My Machine Code" on his Night Vision label in 2008, and now follows that up with this killer remix of "Threadbare".
The other remix is a more minimal affair by Norman Nodge, one of the residents at Berlin's most important club: Berghain. Norman has previously released original tracks on Marcel Dettmann Records, as well as an ever-growing list of remixes for Sandwell District, Baum Records, Time To Express, Synewave and Perc Trax.
The two remixes will be released on vinyl on 4 October. The digital package will be complemented by the original and instrumentals of the original and Orlando Voorn's remix, and will be released a few weeks later.

Fri, 17 Sep 2010  /  Post a commentProcess Recordings proudly presents "Minor Obsessions", the third album by Corrugated Tunnel (a.k.a. Edwin James). Already firmly established on the Dublin scene as a DJ, remixer and live electronics act, he is Ireland's answer to Röyksopp, Trentemøller and Booka Shade.
Process Recordings proudly presents "Minor Obsessions", the third album by Corrugated Tunnel (a.k.a. Edwin James). Already firmly established on the Dublin scene as a DJ, remixer and live electronics act, he is Ireland's answer to Röyksopp, Trentemøller and Booka Shade.
Corrugated Tunnel has built a reputation for producing beautifully crafted, melodic and deep electronic music, that crosses various genres. DJ Magazine described it as “successfully blurring the boundaries between house, techno, electro and breaks”. His music has been released on labels as diverse as Dance Electric, Systematic, Rebirth, Dirty Works, Plastica and Ork. He has remixed and/or produced tracks for artists ranging from DK7 and Def Disko to Chelonis R Jones and David Duriez. Since his first release in 2005, he has also released two critically-acclaimed albums on local Dublin label seedyR: "We Are Electronix" in 2006 and "I Am Corrugated" in 2008.
2010 is the year in which Corrugated Tunnel's career is changing up a few gears. His gig diary for the remainder of the year is filling up rapidly, with many gigs in Europe and Asia about to be confirmed. Through Process Recordings his new album will catch the attention of the label's fanbase in France, Germany, Italy and (of course) the UK. The introductory single "Remedy For My Soul" has had extensive airplay on many European radio stations as well as in Australia and the USA. Corrugated Tunnel is one Celtic Tiger that is about to really roar.
"Minor Obsessions" is notably different from his previous albums by the prominence of vocals on many of the tracks, which is sure to be a blueprint for future releases. The guest vocalists come from various corners: D'mia on "Shine On" has previously appeared on various Chelonis R Jones albums. The Bristolesque influenced downbeats of "Threadbare" are perfectly complemented by the haunting voice of Martin McCann, lead singer of Sack, who has written songs such as "Laughter Lines", which Morrissey stated "should be number one forever". Antoinette (Dunleavy), who stars in the Dublin stage musical "The Story of Motown", lends her luscious voice to Italo-disco "Remedy For My Soul" and to classic house track "The Rejection", whilst Deborah Kay's moody vocals grace sinister Detroit-style "Cabin Fever".
The album consists of 12 diverse tracks that blend together seamlessly into a 53-minute electronic symphony, taking the listener on a musical journey from big arena rave anthem "Festival", via the meandering techno of "Fade Away", block beats on "Ambidextrous", Spanish guitars on "Keep The Change", the playful interlude "Cuckoo", and hypnotic techno anthem "Time Machine" through to the epic finale of "Transist".
"Minor Obsessions" is surely Corrugated Tunnel's most complete album yet.
