Biography of Cosmo Cater | | | Moniker(s) / | Arcane Rhythm |
Cosmo’s superb set-crafting abilities have established him as the warm-up DJ of choice for whenever credible superstar DJs roll through Brisbane – Sasha, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo (Hernan named it his favourite gig of 2009), Joris Voorn, Robert Babicz and Dave Seaman just some of the names to receive Cosmo’s patented warm-up treatment. In fact his set in support of Diggers in 2005 was so warmly received no one was really sure if the rapturous applause as it climaxed was for Diggers stepping up to the decks or Cosmo’s own performance. And the prog mafia don't just love his warm-ups - Sasha made a rare dancefloor excursion for Cosmo's closing set at Family, an amazing honour.
Crafting slow-building warm-ups isn’t the only weapon in the Cosmo Cater arsenal, with his much-vaunted diversity seeing him hold down a six year long residency at Brisbane nightspot Jade Buddha, and a string of previous residencies all over town during the past decade. He's just at home warming up a room with nu disco and house grooves as he is dropping a tech-laden smashfest at a festival. 2010 has seen him set the stage for Hernan Cattaneo, Gui Boratto, Robert Babicz, and the warm-up "set of a lifetime" for dance music legends Orbital. 2011 saw him reel off an enviable support list: Hernan Cattaneo, Desyn Masiello, Dave Seaman, Joris Voorn, Robert Babicz, Carl Craig and more.
TimeOff Magazine Writer's Poll 2009 awarded Cosmo's warm-ups for Hernan Cattaneo and Sasha a prestigious joint honour: Local Set of The Year.
He’s rocked interstate crowds and can usually be found somewhere in a Brisbane club most weekends. He has also become a fixture of the festival circuit, with slots at the 2005 Big Day Out Boiler Room, Summafieldayze (03-10, 12) to date, as well as Future Music Festival (06-12), BBQ Breaks, Two Tribes, Earthcore main stage and more.
Held in high regard by his peers for having a broad yet cheeky musical taste and the technical skills to back it up, Cosmo is regarded as one of Queensland’s finest.
On the production front Cosmo is one half of Arcane Rhythm with Mike Tuppin - their 2003 Vapour Recordings release ‘Shadows/Transient’ was a double-sided atom bomb, so much so that John Digweed played the A Side to a worldwide audience on his Kiss FM show.
The rest of Australia is slowly catching on to what Brisbane has known for years – when kick-starting parties, Cosmo Cater is one man you want in your corner.
"The night finished perfectly with another appearance from Sasha-in-waiting Cosmo Cater, who even managed to get Sasha on to the dancefloor with an awesome double-up of ‘Xpander’ and the Planet Rockers remix of ‘Heaven Scent’. After finishing the night with the serene sounds of the Cosmos mix of Lamb ‘What Sound’, the crowd shuffled out in the morning light, wishing that the night hadn’t finished seemingly as soon as it had started." inthemix.com.au review of Sasha support at Family, Nov 2004.
