They have released consistently great sets by some of my favorite artists, so I knew this had to be something special. The set I submitted was recorded at The Token Lounge near Detroit where I held my first DJ residency nearly a decade ago. After a winter of hunkering down and re-organizing my classics and acquiring loads of new material, I began to watch this compilation come together piece by piece. I recorded the set shortly after being consumed by an emotional whirlwind in my personal life and the results are evident of that. Initially inspired by Detroit techno parties of the late nineties, Dan Bain began DJ’ing in 1999. Blurring lines between genres - focusing instead on emotional context, he has crafted a style that is meant to convey a story. This unique approach has begun to earn him a reputation in Detroit and beyond: as a DJ who brings more to a performance than a couple hours of 4/4 beats at 120BPM.
Influences ranging from trip hop to indie, classic psychedelic, folk and blues have led Bain to a crossroads of sorts. An opportunity to share a wide range of sounds with anyone willing to listen.
