" If i can deliver a body of music that can connect with the spirit, that's the ultimate goal...& from this high, come down, see clearer & just maybe get your own shit together"
Demi has been lighting up dancefloors worldwide for the better part of the last decade. Whether he’s performing at the biggest global festivals, playing alongside some of the planet’s most influential DJs, holding residencies in some of the most iconic venues or headlining marathon sets deep in the caverns of the underground and globetrotting with fellow rogue sonic warriorS Omid 16B & former member Desyn Masiello under their SOS guise; the desire to create a positively sonic experience has kept his fire burning more than any award, nomination or adulation that has come his way since his humble beginnings at his weekly residency at Bali's infamous DOuble Six Club back in 2000.
The recent years in the rollercoaster journey of this contagiously exuberant talent have extended his deserved merits beyond the clubs by a medium closely connected to his craft. A Radio One Essential Mix in 2006 (the only 3 hour studio recording in its history) that sent positive shockwaves to the music industry, followed by two landmark compilation releases (Balance 013 (2008) & Ministry of Sound - The Club (2010)) with the SOS project he continues to involve himself with; Three definitive and timeless captions forever etched in its mark on dance music's legacy, demonstrating musical synergy at its force, and which continues to set a benchmark for the current wave. This momentum led to Demi landing a prestigious front cover recgonition in DJ Magazine (Jan 2010 with SOS).
His more recent solo compilation, "Sounds like Alola - Volume 2" (2011) (a pioneering deep house label formed in the early 90's by his SOS compadre Omid 16b) has seen Demi absorb himself into a project totally in sync with his philosophy to the true art and craft of the DJ and its incredible opportunity to elevate the spirits. It is a true testament to Demi, who provides a sensational compilation in response to Omid’s confidence. Piecing the past, present and future together with a hotbed of sonic wealth from the ALola back catalogue, the world finally sees a true glimpse of Demi's demented approach to how he weaves his way through the sonic spectrum. His vibrant personality is infectious and his live performances are equally exhilarating. With the ease of someone seemingly born to perform, his ear for the right frequency of the moment and combinations have carved out a niche in the house scene he can truly call his own. In the spirit of his early mentor Danny Tenaglia, a true DJ's DJ.
At present, Demi is channelling all his love and devotion towards the recordings of a debut album for a sonic assault on the masses,as well as future collaborations and guilty pleasures. The studio output has been a slow and deliberate process of developing and evolving both a technique and vision to manifest his demented mind and soul. A steady stream of remixes have seen Demi work with the likes of Sexonwax, Sunday Best, Nang along with his much eagerly anticipated debut EP "Be Cool. Stay Warm, Don't Burn" on Alola Records.
There is also the small matter of an SOS artist album which has had a collection of sketches and sonic experimentations amassed already over the years and continues to evolve in the highest possible manner.
Sponsored and armed by industry giant such as Pioneer and Native Instruments, Demi's journey continues to give what you need, not what you expect.
DEMI - THE PAST
His humble beginnings stem back to his days at university where his love for music extended to collecting and sourcing vinyl from record stores and basements as well as having the good fortune of a few extensive record collections passed on to him from elder family members. This broad palette of pre 90's music and sounds exposed to Demi was an instant drug for him and the last pennies in his pocket for food and drink would often go to 'the next record', a habit which to this day he still finds hard to kick.
His introduction to DJ'ing came towards the end of his studies, borne from a day spent at a DJ friend's apartment (Chris Watts), where his curious mind under the influence, took the plunge and began to mix frequencies and sounds together for the first time not just in his mind. The drug had intensified and soon after graduating he was the right person at the right time to take on a weekly summer residency in 2000 at Double Six in Bali, Indonesia – a club that has gained a first-class reputation among premier DJs and travelling punters. Demi began to learn very quickly the responsibility of a residency. A proper residency which did not mean playing the same club once in a while; it meant playing extended sets in the same club sometimes 3-4 nights every week Not only did he learn but he also loved every minute of it. From the first second to the last moment to find the perfect way to end what should be a lasting experience, performing regular extended sets three nights a week there helped him hone in on his skills as he developed a loyal following on the island who took to this uplifting deliverance of his musical landscape. Once you've schooled yourself through this in the club and with distinction, you can rely on it forevermore. The path was set for this young infectious personality to follow.
Fast forward to 2002 and on a whim, Demi submitted a mix tape into Mixmag who along with international club brand Cream, ran a competition to find a new resident for their superclub. He was shortlisted to compete in the London regional finals. He went on to win this and feature in the finals at the Nation in Liverpool.
Shortly after, a far bigger prize awaited Demi when one of his demotapes fell into the hands of Danny Tenaglia during his milestone visit to London in 2002. And on the back of listening to the tape from the little unknown DJ, his instincts led to an invitation for Demi to come and spin alongside him at his Be Yourself parties in NYC.
Danny has since invited Demi to play alongside him on no less than 7 of his shows over the years in London, Miami, Ibiza, and notably during his infamous NYC residency at Vinyl/Arc. A living legend, who once he'd heard Demi's demotape back in 2002, appeared to see many shades of himself during his own early years through this effervescent child of the dark night. Indeed a pivotal moment in Demi's career and Danny continues to extend the invitation to him where possible.
Demi is the man behind the infamous Deeper Substance & Substantially Deeper parties (2001-2004) that exposed his savvy work as a promoter; bringing talent from across the globe to some of London's intimate underground venues every month. The renowned Rhythm Factory venue was the location for the final show in 2004 and saw Demi and his team feature Groove Armada with a surprise cameo appearance by Gramma'Funk (lead vocals on some of their biggest worldwide hits to date)
The subsequent birth of Deeper Substance Records was borne of a desire to further develop and manifest his ultimate goal. A succession of releases between 2005-2007 were to catch the attention of his piers furthermore and featured on various
high-profile label compilations. Remix work under several guises followed with credible labels such as Sunday Best and Sexonwax Recordings and a notable remix of David Bowie's classic song "Let's Dance" (initially was a club tool for Demi's sets) was featured on an official compilation release of commissioned remixes of some of Bowie's hit songs.
