Biography of Derek Hannon
Derek is from Detroit, Michigan and was raised on Motown, along with the sounds of the 70's and 80's. Starting at the age of 10 he was classically trained in the area of percussion, woodwind, and brass. Eventually during his own exploration of music he became a fan of the many layers in classically composed music and the aloft feeling from the strings and vocals in Jazz.
At the age of sixteen he stumbled across electronically produced music and quickly learned that it was more than a sound. It came with a unique lifestyle. His years from 2001 through 2004 were spent mostly on the road. Just getting in the car and driving across country he ended up in Major cities out west such as Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Even small towns through the south and midwest. Upon his return to Michigan to settle in, Derek received a proper introduction to 'Detroit Techno' and wanted to learn the technical aspect of how to mix and play the music. Countless days and nights were spent learning the basic tools of a DJ, from a group of artists, each whom had a unique sound of their own. Each time Derek was learning it varied from house, techno, speed garage, deep house, minimal, straight jack and sounds of the world.
Keeping an open mind and embracing all types of music has paid off for Mr. Hannon. He definitely knows how to make a proper selection and use the music as a tool to set the mood and implore fervor. Doing some of his earliest and finest work in intimate settings. He has definitely acquired the ability to take an eclectic philosophy of music and make it consonant no matter the locale.
