Biography of DJ Ebar | |
| Real name / | DJ EBAR |

DJ EBAR has been spinning cutting-edge underground dance music professionally since 1991, focusing on tribal tech-house for club venues and deep, jazzy house for lounge/bar venues. Beginning his DJ career in the Chicago area, he moved on to Florida, Phoenix, Paris, and New York City. His mixing style is comprised of long, seamless, textured mixes that build in intensity as he progresses into his unique vibe. His years of experience, coupled with his ability to read dancefloors, adapt his set and fluctuate energy levels has impressed crowds around the world and led him to play with the likes of Josh Wink, Louie Vega (MAW), Kevin Hedge (Blaze), Tony Humphries, Matthias Heilebronn, Kaskade, Andy Caldwell, Barbara Tucker, Tiesto, Moby and countless others. He is currently based in Manhattan and is managed by Maison Music Artist Management (Carl Craig, D’Julz, DJ Pierre, Tyler Stadius, Ralph Lawson, Dan Ghenacia) and Top DJ Bookings (D:Fuse, 3 Speaker High, Kai).
EBAR has also been producing and engineering his own music for his production unit and studio Twilight Technologies New York since 1996. His eclectic, high quality productions and remixes stretch from tech-house, hard tribal, progressive, acid jazz, broken beat nujazz and dreamy deep house. He is able to turn around top-flight productions in multiple genres within short timespans. With a 12-year formal education in classical and jazz piano, he knows his way around the keys as well as the drum machine. Releases by EBAR can be found on labels such as Halo Varga’s Bluem Records, Pound Boys’ Look At You Records, Player Records UK, Discograph France, New York’s Megamen Sounds, a remix of Robbie Rivera’s ‘Bangin’ The Beats’ on Episode Records, two releases on major label RCA Victor, a set of remixes of Vivian Green on Sony/Columbia, Sifted Recordings, Central Park Recordings, etc etc.
EBAR runs his own record label Sifted Recordings in association with his studio partner Ramie Burns. Sifted Recordings is comprised of three sub-labels that each specialize in different genres: Sifted Recordings Green (tech-house, tribal, progressive house); Sifted Recordings Red (techno, breaks, hard-house); and Sifted Recordings Blue (house, deep house, funky house). The first 3 singles on Sifted have all hit the prestigious Balance top 40 chart as well as numerous other US and international charts. More information at www.siftedrecordings.com.
September 2003 saw EBAR and his tagteam DJ partner Ramie Burns (collectively called ‘General Funk Theory’) going on a 1 month club and radio DJ tour across the capital cities of Europe to promote the CD and their vinyl releases. Their gigs included the top clubs in Dublin, Paris, London, Cologne, Antwerp etc. Their music rides somewhere on the boundaries of the funky house of San Francisco, East coast tech-house, the stomping techno of Northern Europe and the percussive tribal drums of Miami Beach. Visually, the pair play off each other on the DJ mixer and whip the crowd into a frenzy, as witnessed by a recent performance at the infamous Los Angeles megaclub Spundae.
EBAR has linked up with talented Portuguese deep house producer Roger Urb to form a trans-Atlantic remix duo focused on churning out a beat-heavy style of rhodesy, jazzy deep house that combines smooth polish and careful writing and production with a rough ‘cut & paste’ ethic of loopy riffs and dirty beats. Already scoring releases on such acclaimed labels as Look At You Records (US) and Player Records (UK).
EBAR is partnered with Scott Richmond (owner of Satellite Records, the world’s largest dance music retailer) in ownership and management of the acclaimed and prestigious deep house label Central Park Recordings. Housing such soulful house music luminaries such as Ron Trent, Osunlade, Tortured Soul, Alix Alvarez, Sandy Rivera and Jon Cutler, the label is considered by many to be one of the highest quality soulful house music labels in the world. Central Park also puts the focus on DJs by producing top-line events at clubs throughout the country, such as Nicolas Matar’s world renowned New York club Cielo.
2008 saw the launch of EBAR's 3rd record label, Quarterlife Records NYC, in partnership with DJ Alex Pearce. This label was launched to a record crowd at Cielo in NYC in January 2008. Quarterlife has already partnered on New York events with such partners as XM Radio, Remix Magazine, Dubspot, and IODA. Quarterlife Records focuses on finding, releasing and pushing a distinct spectrum of sounds from the dance music underground - on one end, the pounding beats of tough, gritty in-your-face electro house music… on the other end, the smooth, sophisticated, intelligent polished beats of deep progressive house… and the narrow niche in between.
Quarterlife Records seeks to innovate the genre and challenge listeners with non-formulaic approaches to house music, to provide a platform for emerging artists to be heard, and to serve as a vehicle to propel established artists further up the charts. The common denominator between releases is the quality of production, attention to detail, and adherence to the aesthetic that Quarterlife embodies – the bangin’ electro sound of underground New York City that makes ‘em throw their hands up.
Quarterlife Records digital releases can be purchased from the world’s finest digital retailers including Beatport, iTunes, eMusic, Dance Tracks Digital, Amazon.com, Rhapsody, Napster, Juno, and so forth.
