Biography of Eric Johnston | |
A Detroit native, Eric Johnston starting DJing in the year 2000, but has been a passionate music lover his entire life. In the course of 32 years he has taught himself to play several different instruments, which has greatly extended his appreciation of all genres of music, whether dance friendly or not. This creativity, ambition, focus, and breadth of imagination is what drives his perpetual quest for the creation of new, unconventional sounds—sounds which push the boundaries of any and all clearly defined dance genres, whether it be minimal, house, tech-house, or techno. Eric always has one ear toward the best of the classic Detroit sound and the other toward the cutting edge of European dance music, creating his own distinctive sound. Living in Berlin for nearly two years, Eric's career has been steadily picking up momentum. 2011 saw him playing in 6 countries while holding a weekly residency, alongside Spectral Sound's Derek Plaslaiko and Visionquest's Shaun Reeves and Ryan Crosson, at the legendary 'Club Der Visionäre' in the heart of Berlin. 'CDV' as it's frequently called, is one of the most highly respected venues in techno with past residents including Ricardo Villalobos, Sammy D, Zip, Seth Troxler, etc. Closely tied with fellow Detroiters, Visionquest, for years, Eric has recently accepted the position of 'tour manager' for Seth Troxler. 2012 promises to be an exciting year!
