Biography of Ewan Smith | |
The energetic Edinburghian, Ewan Smith has been hosting nights for the best part of the naughties. His residency at one of Edinburgh’s longest running club nights, Stereotype set Ewan apart on the Scottish scene and landed him appearances at its most oracular events including Musika (Edinburgh). Our boy became a pioneer of the Edinburgh dance scene in his own right - who else can boast they were the first promoter to bring Jamie Jones to their capital city in 2009? Exactly….!
Ewan secured an internship at Resident Advisor last year which brought the young whipper snapper to London and things have been descending into a marvellous chaos ever since. Playing alongside the likes of Steve Bug, Michael Mayer, Nick Curly, Robag Wruhme, Joy Orbison and Dyed Soundorom have kept things looking lively to say the least. Appearing at success story events such as Eastern Electrics, De La Techa and regular appearances at 2020 Vision's recent London events have strengthened Mr. Smith’s burgeoning deep-disco, party-provider credentials too.
In his magic bag you’ll find meaty records from label favourites Playhouse, Running Back, Circus Company, Crosstown Rebels and 2020 Vision alongside the likes of his biggest influences, Ricardo Villalobos, Craig Richards, Steve Bug, Lee Burridge, Gerd Janson and jozif. Oh and these might occasionally be interspersed with sprinklings of his own releases on CityWest Records as we also have a budding producer on our hands here.
Ewan keeps the Scottish phonic flag flying high, appearing at bi-monthly night, SouLoco up the road in Edinburgh alongside his London exploits. He lays down a residential blend of deep house, disco and techno eggs – a recipe for a shapely shindig that mirrors his upbringing in a musical family that exposed him to an array of different genres. It’s Ewan’s deepness and enthusiasm behind the decks that apportions him from the rest. If there’s one man to keep momentum spinning in the deeper realms, this, is most definitely him.
