This is the live recording of the set I did at Nofitstate February 2013, all the fun happened at the basement on Hoxton Street, one of my favourite little party spots in London. Enjoy!
Coinciding with London hotspot XOYO opening the doors of XO Bar, i-D announces the arrival of their monthly mixtape night – headed up by murmur and mulletover man Geddes.
With the mulletover 8th birthday bash fast approaching we thought we'd dig up some musical goodness from the birthday one year ago, to get you in the mood of things. Check out Reboot's exclusive set for the mulletover 7th birthday celebrations...
murmur / nofitstate boss Geddes unleashes his first full release after a three year break – and it’s definitely been worth the wait. A techy trip of solid and seamless grooves with a mischievous streak, ‘Inner City Man EP’ on murmur’s sub-label nofitstate is set to slay the dance floor at the dawn of a very promising year for one of London’s underground heroes.
This Saturday Geddes joins us at Junk and we've been lucky enough to get the Junk Lowdown with Geddes before his gig despite his hectic schedule.
Warehouse party scenester, Geddes, has been pioneering deep house and turning heads in London's underground house circuit for a number of years now and his Mulletover parties dawned a new age in London clubbing. His forward thinking, dubby house style was picked up at first at his Mulletover residency but has since rocked crowds from LA's Culprit Sessions to Watergate in Berlin and festivals including Austria's Snowbombing, London's Lovebox and Garden Festival and Hideout in Croatia plus a summer residency at We Love… Space, Ibiza.
His much admired and respected record label Murmur enables him to showcase his unique approach to deep house. The label has helped shape the careers of some of the most exciting new artists to emerge in recent times including Nick Curly, Tom Demac, Nima Gorji, Mic Newman and Bearweasel and his off-shoot label parties No Fit State regularly attract sell-out crowds with stellar line ups.
This Saturday Geddes joins us for Junk Love... and it won't be his first time either. Geddes has impressed us everytime he has come down to visit and we're eagerly anticipating his return. We've been lucky enough to get the Junk Lowdown with Geddes before his gig despite his hectic schedule and we've got a live mix of his from his 2011 Watergate show. You'll be able to find this and tickets for the show after the chat!
What’s your name?
Geddes
Current location and why are you there?
I live in Dalston, East London. It seems to be the coolest place around!
What’s your favourite club and why?
Robert Johnson in Frankfurt beats most clubs hands down. I love it there! The soundsystem and space is amazing and all you need for a good night out.
What is the worst gig you’ve ever played and why?
When I first started DJing I played at some dodgy bars in the West End just because I wanted to spin records. Looking back those days definitely helped define my skills but they weren't great shows!
What’s the most embarrassing moment you’ve had while performing?
Being in an unconscious state behind the decks and stopping the music by mistake.
What have you been working on recently in the studio?
Currently on my way to the studio now to work on a remix and some tasty original tracks. My current EP 'Inner City Man' is doing the rounds on promo at the moment and gathering some good momentum!
Who would you most like to work with in the studio and where do you find your inspiration?
I'd love to sit in on a session with Carl Craig and see how he gets his sound.
I'd love to sit in on a session with Carl Craig.
When you’re touring or playing a gig away what can’t you leave without?
Movies
What’s your vice?
Extreme yoga to keep my body in tact.
And your anti-vice?
The cold. I really don't operate well in the cold!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I'd like to be thinking about my second album in 5 years time, better get the first out the way eh! :) Drinking fine wine and playing festival dates across the globe would be great too.
What job do you think you would be doing if you weren’t doing what you are now?
Profesional racing driver.
What’s been your worst job?
I was once an estate agent.
And finally… What’s your favourite song of all time and why?
Carly Simon 'Why' - such a wicked tune, speaks for itself!
Cheers Geddes - we can't wait to see you on Saturday!
