Biography of Goldie-Lox | | | Real name / | Michael, Andrew Jansons, Read |
London based Goldie-lox have been making a name for crafting bottom slices of eerie house music. Their sound has been described as deep, raw and melodically twisted.
DJ and producer duo Andrew Read and Michael Jansons – aka Goldie-lox – are head honchos at Salacious Records and have produced and remixed records on a number of key labels in the industry such as G.I Recordings, Gusto and Mantra Vibes’ Hell Yeah Records. Their deep, rickety, tech sound has gained support from the likes of Sasha, Steve Lawler, John Digweed, Mark Night, Deepgroove, James Zabiela, Claude Von Stroke, Carl Cox, and Martijin Ten Velden.
Their first release on Salacious, ‘Jakanory’ (2006) received backing from the esteemed Mark Night, Italian break-beat duo Blatta & Inesha (featuring on their first Mantra Vibes Compilation ‘Mad in Sicily’) and Israeli trio The Flash Brothers. At the time the pair were also meeting success with their remix of Ben Macklin’s ‘Inside Me’ (2006) - released on his own label Arkade Records - which outsold mixes from Seb Fontaine & Jay P and Wesley S. Their first release on Litmus Recordings, ‘Funktronika’ (2006), gained support from the likes of Anne Savage, Damien Wilson, Deepgroove, Dave Lambert, and Eddie Halliwell, Funk d Void, Jody Wisternoff and The Begginerz.
They kicked off 2007 with the dark stomp of ‘I’m Convinced He Plays Dice’, which featured on Steve Lawler’s ‘Wasted Again Mix 06’. This was shortly followed by the eagerly awaited release of ‘Foreign Girls.’ Both tracks garnering support from tastemakers such as Sasha, James Zabiela, Martijin TenVelden, John Acquavia, Cass and Steve Lawler himself.
Goldie-lox’s darker interpretation of Tony Cha Cha vs Dennis Christopher’s ‘(Do I Look Like A) Slut’ on Gusto Records was greatly received, gaining support from the likes of Claude Von Stroke, Deepgroove, Moussa Clarke and Matjiin Ten Velden. Consequently, the boys were asked to remix future G.I. Recordings releases LXR vs Andrea Doria ‘Freak Me’ and Girogio Prezioso‘s ‘Pongo’. Early acquaintances with Italian duo Blatta & Inesha also lead the pair to remix recently released ‘Do It At The Peepshow’ by Blatta & Inesha & Wiesel on Mantras sister label ‘Hell Yeah Records’.
Following on from the success of their last two records ‘I’m Convinced He Plays Dice’ and ‘Foreign Girls’ (both released on Salacious records), Goldie-Lox’s latest release ‘The Perception EP’ is their most experimental work to date. It has garnered substantial support from tastemakers and media alike including influential players Carl Cox and John Digweed. Carl Cox recently crowned ‘Ugly Face in the Club’ No.1 track in his 2007 playlist.
