Biography of Gow | | | Real name / | Chris Gowland |
Quirky, strange, different and unexpected..pair these words with driven, professional, passionate and positive and you might just have a small grasp on the wonderful world of Gow.
Hailing from Middlesbrough in the North of England, Gow set sail on a magical mystery tour to the White Isle, spreading his smog tainted wings to DJ at the formidable Zoo Project parties. Here he acts as a resident Captain Jack Sparrow, traveling through the deep house music seas, crossing genres in to depths of minimal and techno along the way. It’s safe to say he causes a weekly mutiny with his sets, to a flock of international party pirates.
Jokes aside, it hasn’t all been plain sailing for Gow, as he started off his career in his hometown, playing his sort of music to anyone that would listen. This lead to local acclaim and a residency at *Riffraff, the towns only underground night. Here he has played alongside acts such as Dyed Soundorom, Matthias Tanzmann, Audiojack, Matt Tolfrey and more.
From the tender age of twenty Gow has also shown his neatly polished hand at production, with releases on German label Trapez , MBF and Natural Rhythm being great success stories. His Jiffy Hornswoggle EP was awarded a 10/10 review from Resident Advisor, and he was also commissioned to produce a track for the Trapez 100th release compilation. With a string of high profile supporters including Ricardo Villalobos, Raresh, Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola and Dubfire, Gow certainly is making his own distinctive mark on the dance music industry.
His musical style is much like the man himself, positive, energetic, forward thinking and quirky. This spurs from the fact Gow edits the majority of tracks he plays to add his own interpretation, and so you can always be sure to hear exclusive material.
With influences ranging from Johnny Cash to Underworld, Gow allows his personal interest and love of music to shine through, cutting away from the sometimes egotistical, self righteous nature of the DJ.
It is for this reason why, should you come across Gow, spending his time feeding his beloved ants in the realms of the Zoo, you should definitely say hello.
Remember, appearances can be deceiving.
