“A Quest For Sonic Truth”
Ivan has rapidly established himself as a major playa in the South African underground music scene as one of the founding members of sSHADOWORKSs, and of course as a prolific, sophisticated and diverse dj.
Having been Djing for around 12 years Ivan’s first love was Techno. With the belief that Techno was more of a mindset than a genre Ivan continued to push sonic boundaries by encompassing a love for all good music.
This eventually led to Ivan creating his alter ego dj low.“dj low allowed me to present a whole range of new music which I couldn’t play as Ivan. I didn’t want people coming to a party expecting a Techno set and the next thing Im playing downtempo. For me dj low allows a freedom of sonic expression. Whilst my style was always hard and aggressive dj low could come along and play the complete opposite, everything from Dub, Reggae, to Hip Hop and Drum and Bass. Why limit yourself?”
Over the years Ivan has played alongside the countries top DJ’s and Live Acts as well as some top international acts such as James Lavelle (UK), Freq Nasty (UK), D.A.V.E The Drummer (UK), Plaid (UK), Mira Calix (UK), Miss Kitten (Germany), Ectomorph (Detroit), Patrick Pulsinger (Austria), and Sal Principato of Liquid Liquid (NY), Lee Burridge (UK), Steve Bug (Germany), Bodycode (SA), Butane (USA), Ryan Crosson (USA) and Guido Schneider (Germany)
dj low has played alongside Rainer Truby (Germany), Dixon (Germany), Forss (Sweden), Jazzanova (Germany), DJ Cam (France), Fingathing (UK), DJ Krush (Japan), and the original Jazzy Jay (USA)
In 2003 Ivan was selected to become an ambassador to the Red Bull Music Academy, representing the academy here in South Africa. Hosting the likes of Micheal Reinboth, Metro Area, Steinski, Markus Intalex, Tony Coleman, Mixologists, A-Track, Anthony “Shake” Shakir, Jay Da Flex, and Osunlade.
Over the past couple of years Ivan has been fortunate enough to continue to be apart of the academy allowing him the opportunity to travel the world frequenting top festivals such as Sonar (Barcelona) and DEMF (Detroit)
