Biography of James Demon | | | Real name / | Matthew Pentycofe |
Catching the music bug very early in life, James Demon learned how to sing, play the cello, and trombone before reaching high school. He realized early on that he enjoyed music and enjoyed performing. However something was missing and he couldn't place it. Trying out as many different performance art styles as possible he finally settled on musical theatre.
Then during his fifteenth year he went to his first rave party. Already a huge fan of Eurohouse and Happy Hardcore music he thought he had an idea of what to expect that fateful night. As he walked towards the warehouse he heard the sound of windows rattling so hard from the bass that he thought they would shatter. He was instantly attracted to the sound the DJ was playing. It was like nothing he had ever heard before. That sound was Techno and this is where his love story began.
He quickly hunted down his local vinyl shop and purchased his first record Ben Sims - Magnetic EP. Shortly after he became a 12" junkie. Buying every record he could find. When the rave scene died over night due to bad publicity, James felt lost and stopped mixing. The music wasn't doing anything for him anymore. The market was releasing the same boring records week after week. It wasn't until 2003 when Ellen Allien released Berlinette that he wiped the dust off his turntables and started mixing again. James Demon's Career started shortly after that.
At that time Electroclash had become very popular and James really liked the sound. It was something fresh and different. Mixing the style with his old Techno records he tried to create his signature sound. He scored his first residencies at Electroclash events in 2004. In 2005 James was offered a gig of a life time. He would be offered the opportunity to organize, promote and DJ his own event at the then brand new Krave nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event titled Tokyo Au GoGo had a short but successful run, opening many new doors for James. He was offered an opening spot at a long running local rave party. He was ecstatic he would get to play in front of a huge crowd for a party he used to go to as a young raver. After that, gigs fluttered his way from all the big promoters in Las Vegas at the time. James Demon also started to test out other waters in the electronic music industry when he began producing his own music solo and in collaborations. Such as the electronic band he formed with his best friend Jul!e D:stroy called Lola Rennt and with a local producer Psychomantis.
James Demon took a long break from music production shortly after that. He spent sometime discovering himself and focusing on mixing. He really wanted to find his sound and felt it hadn't been defined yet. Fast forward to 2008. Finally confident he had found his unique sound mixing the obscure, to the sexy, to the minimal grooves program. He started producing tracks again and playing after hours sets at clubs around Las Vegas, as well as getting his own radio show on www.ignitesystems.com called Minimal Mondays. |
