Biography of JKriv

Real name / Jason Kriveloff

JKriv (aka Jason Kriveloff) is a man of many musical hats.

As a founding member, bass-player, and co-songwriter/producer for the live-house band Tortured Soul, he has toured the world and contributed to tracks that are classic staples of the 2000-something deep house oeuvre. Over the past decade or so he has also spearheaded a number of side projects such as The Moves and bgb, which have seen releases on the ubiquitous OM Records, the now-defunct classic NYC house label Central Park Recordings, and Steve Bug’s deep house imprint Dessous.

As a remix artist J scored major success with two top-ten Billboard Dance Chart singles for Sony Urban artists Vivian Green and Goapele in the 2000’s. More recently he’s lent his disco-boogie remix stylings to Bah Samba (Favouritizm), the new Brooklyn-based Tigers On A Leash label, and an upcoming Philadelphia International release on Harmless Records, for which J’s rework of the O’Jays classic “Darlin Darlin Baby” was selected.

His skills as an instrumentalist are in high demand, as well; he played bass for Brazilian Girls (Verve) on their summer 2008 tour, which included a massive main-stage Lollapalooza performance, and the disco outfit Escort has now recruited him as their mainstay bassist. His bass and guitar playing can be heard on recordings as diverse as neo-soul diva Angela Johnson’s album “Better,” to DJ Spinna’s “Rock (Unplugged),” and Alphabet City’s recent remix of Mythical Beasts for the International Feel label.

Lately J’s been collecting his forays into the world of DJing and production under the moniker Deep&Disco, which aptly describes the sound and style of his musical approach. He’s amassed a formidable following of discophiles around the globe through his signature-crafted edits and reworks, which have won the praise and play of luminaries such as Greg Wilson, Craig Smith (6th Borough Project), Bag Raiders, Jody Watley, OOFT!, Dicky Trisco, Yam Who?, Cosmic Boogie, Ashley Beedle, and many more.

His namesake label Deep&Disco Recordings launched in 2011, with the electro-soul anthem “Another Night,” followed by the downtempo groover “Elisco” - both of which climbed to the #1 slot at tastemaker UK dance music store, Juno Records. With numerous releases and remix work slated for 2012, the future’s looking bright as a disco ball for JKriv.
