Tue, 14 Dec 2010 / Post a commentCroatian techno producer Jolka has mixed up an hour’s worth of robust, moody techno for Juno Plus.
As recently as last week we were doffing our caps in the direction of boutique techno imprint Sect for securing the services of two of techno’s finest, Surgeon and Silent Servant, to remix Jolka.
Both the UK stalwart and the Sandwell District collaborator turned in tough, raw and generally brilliant remixes of “Five”. Surgeon’s remix was characterised by a thumping kick and mindf*ck synth washes that form the rhythmic thrust for a seriously tight groove, while the Silent Servant remix took Sandwell District on tour with a crackly, subterranean effort underpinned by a 7am bassline that burrowed deep inside your brain.
Jolka’s original took pride of place on the A Side, and was in no way star struck by the royalty showcased on the flip, which is a huge compliment in itself. His mix for Juno Plus opens with the aforementioned Silent Servant remix, and works its way through a superb selection from the likes of Delta Funktionen, Raiz, Samuli Kemppi and more. Enjoy.

Over the last 5 years Luka Baumann has been making a name for himself with releases on Emergence Records, his own label PSNZ and most recently Sect Records. Collaborating with his partner in crime Grovskopa and as a duo, they produce their own original productions with a darker and harder edge. While producing hard-hitting, industrial techno, he’s also got the deeper side of things under his Jolka guise.
