Joseph

Biography of Joseph

Real name / Joseph Mercado
Moniker(s) / Joseph, DJ Dimension, Moody Groova, MegaMen

Joseph, also known as DJ Dimension, was born and raised in East Harlem NYC, becomes inspired by the distinct sound and ambiance of the NYC club scene. As we flashback, the year is 1988 and we're grooving to "Break 4 Love" (Raze), "Work it to the Bone" (LNR), and who could forget Todd Terry's "Bango! He lives for the weekend, to be swept away by the moment. Soon, the weekends just aren't enough. "There must be some way to duplicate this sound," he ponders. "A way to keep this groove alive." He finds the way. It begins with the purchase of a few House records, shortly followed by turntables, a mixer and headphones. "Its just a hobby", he'd say, but as the beats became more engaging, and the blends more aqueous, so did the requests from friends and family for mix tapes, birthday parties, weddings and numerous mobile gigs. His thought becomes a mission, his dream a reality...

Early in the nineties Joseph began promoting his own dance parties with events held at various NYC clubs & bars. In turn these would lead to numerous DJ appearances spinning at renowned clubs as Octagon, Tatou, Roxy, Carbon & The Limelight. The DJ sets spanned musical styles; Funk, Disco, Hip Hop & rare groove. But Joseph consistently made sure that his brand of hard hitting; funky soulful, old school inspired style of House Music was represented on the turntables. By May of 1996 Joseph had gained a significant amount of recognition. So much so that he was invited to guest DJ on 89.1 FM, WNYU's The Candy Store. The taping received rave reviews and helped to launch him to the next level of his quest.

By 1997 Joseph, influenced and inspired by producers and friends Mood II Swing, Henry Maldonado and William Rosario, now begins to set his sights on music production. His style though mostly house now incorporates a fusion of trance, drum n' bass and funky breaks, creating a unique sound. His early works can be found on the BML label. Soon Joseph collaborates with William Rosario to form MegaMen Productions. Their distinct style was captured by the Strictly Rhythm label with their first project 'Hands Up (What?)' under the pseudonym Ghetto Stylez and again as a remix duo on the single 'I Love You More' by King Street recording artist Kimara Lovelace.

For the new millennium as one -half of MegaMen, Joseph has help set trails ablaze through NYCs dance music scene. The veteran dj / producer team-as well as recording label owners (MegaMen Sounds) have captured the recognition and praise of top dj's and producers such as; Todd Terry, Melvin Moore, Armand Van Helden and Lord G. In addition, stations KISS FM and 89.1FM WNYU show their love by being major spin supporters of MegaMen tracks on their mixshows. Record retail giants Virgin MegaStore, FYE & Specs Music carry Megamen Mix CD compilations with major distribution by Sony Red; Ghetto Soul Sessions, Live From NYC & Ghetto Soul Sessions: The Sequel. The MegaMen duos remix expertise can be heard on tracks by Robbie Rivera's "Make Some Noise" (Episode Records), 'Thats House' (FTL Records), as well as projects on Sifted Recordings. Theyƕve moved the feet of clubgoers with DJ sets at GBH @ Centro Fly NYC alongside the legendary Todd Terry during Media Music Expo 2002, at BillBoard Party 2002 alongside Barbara Tucker and at E-Man's Bang the Party. MegaMen made their cable television debut at this year's Winter Music Conference on Miami Florida's The RooF (Mun2 Network).

Currently Joseph is working on a new direction in life as well as music, launching next dimension music a digital record label committed to bringing you; the artist, the music lover, the cultural eclectic - a world founded in faith, the joy of life and the promise of love.
