Juan Bucio

Biography of Juan Bucio

Moniker(s) / UNMEAS1

In melding the bouncy sounds of house with the funky side of techno, DJ/producer Juan Bucio takes audiences on a spacey ride of beats that freak, funk and bump. Since taking to the decks more than a decade ago, Bucio has become a master manipulator of dance floor nuances, balancing a vibe of house and techno while blending each with instinctual finesse.

Bucio’s love for big bass dates back to the hedonistic rave days of the early-’90s. But by 1997, Bucio craved more than a front row seat at the party; instead, he looked to ignite it. Enlisting in a pair of turntables, mixer and a bunch of records. Bucio began carving out his niche while playing records all thru the night in his parents house, a skill that would set the course for the decade ahead.

More recently, Bucio was bitten by the music production bug and taking influences from a long list of tech-house heavyweights including, Luciano, Matthew Dear + Audion, Ricardo Villalobos, Lee Burridge, Crazy P and Loco Dice. But it was his 2009 trip to Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) that has solidified the future vibe of his evolving sound.

“When I went back to Detroit in ’09, I got inspired and felt music again... music with a different edge,” Bucio says. “Seeing all these people going nuts and feeling it... made me remember why I got involved with this music in the first place –it made me fall in love all over again.”

Bucio sets take spacey inspiration from tripped out basslines, clicky rhythms and a slightly indefinable “weird, alien vibe.” But for the DJ/producer, it’s the feel-good journey of sound that can make everyone essentially feel the music—however weird and alien it may be.

Juan Bucio looks to release his debut EP in 2012, along with a new record label. Stay tuned for added frequencies.
