With several productions on labels such as Matt Tolfrey's UK-based Leftroom Records, Left'd, South Italia's Recycle Records and Lowpitch. Julian is without a doubt an artist to keep an eye on. His debut EP by Lowpitch "Lights Down" had the early support of Locodice, Mathias Kaden, Livio & Roby. Now Julian comes back home to present his second full work on the Jose Armas and Luis Groove's Canarian based label. This time with a remix of the Circoloco Ibiza resident and Isgud Label head Tato.

The dominant beats here are of a techno house prepared on the basis of a personal sound in which dyes are deep and hypnotic sounds with the brand of the house. ¿CUANDO Y COMO TE DISTE CUENTA DE QUE QUERIAS EMPEZAR A PRODUCIR TU PROPIA MUSICA?

Me encanta pinchar, pasarme horas escuchando discos e ir cambiando mi sonido, haciéndolo cada vez más personal y específico, pero ha llegado un momento en el que te das cuenta de que hoy en día es mucho más fácil conseguir música digital y pincharla gracias a los sistemas de software. Esto hace que casi sin conocimientos puedas pinchar sin errores y se haga aburrido. Es entonces cuando me doy cuenta de que la única forma de superarme a mi mismo es empezar a producir, pienso que un artista completo es el que aparte de su gusto musical para pinchar música de otros, tiene su propio sonido que le identifique.

He empezado un poco tarde a hacer música, hace apenas un año, pero gracias a ello sé lo realmente quiero conseguir. Han sido muchos años de influencias y aunque seguramente mi forma de hacer música vaya evolucionando, intento que todas mis producciones tengan ese toque en común.

¿CUALES SON LOS LOGROS QUE MAS DESTACARIAS EN TU CORTA CARRERA COMO PRODUCTOR? ¿HAS VISTO RECONOCIDO TU TRABAJO?

Cuando empecé nunca pensé que conseguiría editar tantos tracks en un año, teniendo en cuenta que lo hacía desde cero. A base de consejos de varios amigos, leer y muchas horas en estudio, edité mi primer tema con el sello español “Lowpitch”, apareció en un sampler con varios artistas nacionales y entró en el Top 100 de beatport la primera semana, lo que me animó a seguir adelante. Los siguientes tracks a destacar fueron para el sello italiano “Recycle”, “Nelipot EP”, con 4 temas, que salió a finales del pasado verano. Al poco tiempo Matt Tolfrey del sello “Leftroom” me contactó porque había escuchado algunas demos que había enviado al sello y me dijo que quería 3 de mis temas. “Almost Love” fue el primero que salió y fue valorado por Raresh, entre otros.
“Lights Down EP” es el nombre de mi último trabajo por el sello Lowpitch antes mencionado, ha tenido unos feedbacks increíbles de artistas como Richie Hawtin, Locodice, DJ Sneak, Osunlade, Mathias Kaden, Dyed Soundorom, Livio & Roby, Paco Osuna, Kabale Und Liebe, Shaun Reeves, Nick Warren, DJ W!ld, Chris Wood, Varoslav, Mirco Violi, Jacuzzy Boys...

El momento en el que más orgulloso me he sentido de mi trabajo es cuando Mathias Kaden me dijo que le encantaban mis demos (aún sin sello), y que había pinchado varias de ellas en la apertura de Cocoon en Amnesia el pasado verano, que los incluía en cada set... Lástima que llegué tarde a esa fiesta y no pude escucharlos. Más adelante me enteré de que Loco Dice, Livio & Roby, Alexi Delano, suelen poner algunos de ellos. Creo que es un momento clave porque es cuando te empiezas a sentir respetado como artista, que alguien como ellos valoren tu música ya empieza a ser algo grande a nivel personal.

¿HACIA DONDE VA TU ESTILO Y SONIDO, HA VARIADO MUCHO EN LOS ULTIMOS AÑOS?

Sí, claro, las tendencias han ido cambiando y ha habido momentos en los que me he ido decantando por sonidos menos housero y algo un poco más techno y minimalistas. Cuando entró hace unos años, parecía que ya estaba muriendo el house y que los sonidos experimentales eran un poco la “moda”, pero ahora todos los estilos están claros y diferenciados y el sonido house y tech house es el que más me gusta crear y mezclar. He sido siempre un seguidor del house underground y me baso mucho en él para mis producciones, quiero empezar a trabajar más el sonido analógico y seguir aprendiendo, manteniendo siempre ese toque old school.

¿COMO ENFOCAS TU SESION A LA HORA DE PINCHAR EN UN LUGAR POR PRIMERA VEZ DONDE NO CONOCES AL PUBLICO?

Bueno al principio me chocaba mucho cuando tenía que actuar en lugares nuevos. Recuerdo en Brasil y Buenos Aires, el DJ que me hacía el warm up pinchaba algo muy diferente a lo que yo estaba apunto de poner, en ese momento pensaba: “¿Si les está gustando esto, les gustará lo mio también?”. O en Miami la pasada WMC, estaba apunto de pinchar en una fiesta LINK donde en ese momento sonaban Marco Carola y Paco Osuna, no cabía más gente así que muchos de ellos estaban en la otra sala sin bailar y muy pasivos, creí que no conseguiría remontar la fiesta a esas horas de la noche y en esa sala. Empecé desconfiado pero a los 15 minutos todo el mundo bailaba y se llenó por completo, fue la última zona en cerrar alargándolo hasta el final. Éstas son las cosas que me han ido dando seguridad con el paso de los años, saber que soy capaz de hacer que la gente confíe poco a poco en mi sin conocerme, ir metiéndome en mi sesión y hacer que todos entren conmigo aunque no sea lo que suelen escuchar, no es imponerles tu sonido, consigues, jugando con tus herramientas y viendo sus reacciones en cada track, darles lo que quieren de una forma que no esperaban.

¿FUTUROS PROYECTOS?

En 2010 he creado unos 35 temas en total, todos míos y en versiones originales. 10 de ellos ya han sido publicados y hay por lo menos 10 más firmados para salir en el primer semestre de 2011 junto con algunos remixes. Este año estoy empezando a trabajar remezclando tracks de otros y tengo previstas algunas colaboraciones interesantes. Es una buena forma de juntar conocimientos y aprender de cada uno de los artistas con los que trabajas y compartiendo gustos y experiencias, lo que te sirve también para aumentar tus posibilidades y habilidades para hacer música en solitario. Siempre voy incluyendo una muestra de los nuevos proyectos que voy terminando y en los que voy trabajando, para que todo el que quiera pueda seguirlos antes de editarlos, siempre me interesa la opinión de todo el mundo.

With several released productions out on labels such as UK-based Leftroom Records, In a recent interview, Matt Tolfrey, the London-based head of Leftroom Records listed Visionquest, Julian Perez as artist who is really inspiring him at the moment with the music he's producing and playing.

His first track “Almost Love” on the V.A. release "Left'd 03", was supported by Raresh, Robert Dietz, Alexi Delano. Bill Patrick.. In 2011 his track “Butterfly Convict” is one of the 4 tracks on a digital and vinyl, will be released on the main label before Miami WMC. After that there is a full EP by Julian.

Two.Birds, the null.eins and Steffen Nehrig’s label Frankfurt-based with artists like Markus Fix, D.Diggler, Dirt Crew, Sasse, Patrick Chardronnet, etc, They selected the track "Keep The Deal", included in the "TWO.BIRDS MID SUMMER DIGITS VOL. 1”, to complete the album released last summer with really good reviews.

Is the turn for the South Italia-based Recycle Records, label from Guido Nemola and Santorini, and artist such as Felipe Valenzuela, Pepper, Fabio Giannelli, Yakine, Minimono, Dani Casarano, etc. “Nelipot EP” has been the first release from Julian on this label, 3 tracks + Remix, with feedbacks from Someone Else, Ralf, Dani Casarano, Fabio Giannelli, Alex Flatner, Marco Faraone, Sebastian Roya, Volta, UES, Alessandro Sensini, Federico Locchi, Dirty Culture, Pepper, to name a few.
In the next 2011, the second release of “Recycle Limited” RY002, is another great 4 tracks vinyl release with the Julian’s track “Royal Token” on it.

At the end of december 2010 will be released next Lowpitch LPD025, Jose Armas and Luis Groove's Canarian- based label with many high quality national and international artists.
