Biography of Kid Circus | | | Real name / | Michael Coker | | Moniker(s) / | Kid Circus, Disco Dirtbox, Barbara from Brazil, Coolhurst |
Kid has been active in areas of djing, promotion and latterly, production.
His first production release was under the Barbara from Brazil guise, 'O for Oranges' released by Cr2 to great feedback from major tastemakers.
At the same time, Kid also assumed the name of Coolhurst. It was a simple premise. Make tracks that combined his love of classic latin sounds, live instruments and programmed drums. Freestyle Records took up the first release, Mamas/Taller Than The Line. Nana Records have released his follow-up, a successful collaboration with US rappers Emskee and Substantial on the ‘They Came To Play’ EP.
Kid’s current project is a collaboration with long-time cohort, Paul Barkworth as part of the Disco Dirtbox outfit. This partnership has yielded some powerful nuggets of cut-up electro funk and deep discotech.
Working their machinery to within an inch of its life, the first release, imaginatively titled Disco Dirtbox mk2 is that quintessential cut-up disco sound we love to bounce to. ISM Records heard it and snapped it up quicker than a fat kid in a candy shop.
Expect more DD gems in due course.
