What is your relationship with Berlin?
I have lived here in Berlin for 8 years. In fact I moved to Berlin from London in the same week Watergate opened in 2002. I fell in love with the city, especially the Kreuzberg area on my first visit, and knew instantly that I wanted to live here. I enjoy the slow pace of daily life here as well as the crazy energy of the night-life of course.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Berlin itself provides lots of inspiration. The city, the way it looks and feels, the people living here, the spaces we live and interact in, it’s history and reputation, all provide for a fertile playground for creative minds. I’m very much influenced by the people, places and experiences around me, including other mediums such as cinema, theatre, classical music, photography, fine art, fashion… all of which are in abundance and very affordable in Berlin.
What is the concept, sound and feeling behind the Watergate 07 compilation?
The mix is my reflection of what the Watergate club stands for… A melting pot of musical influences ranging from Jazz, World Music, Pop, Soul and Funk, all working over a house groove, with a clean, modern, minimal aesthetic. A snapshot of how a party at Watergate sounds and feels, but something for listening to away from the club.
