Biography of Luca Pilato

Hailing from the South coast of England but with strong Sicilian roots, Luca Pilato is one of the original and long-standing Junk/Junk Department residents. From his debut at the club in 2006 he was quickly recognised as a DJ who could play well-crafted and intelligent DJ sets, gifted with an enviable technical ability and possessing a unique energy on the decks. This immediately led to Luca being signed up as a resident almost from the moment he stepped out the booth and since then Luca has become an integral part of the Junk family pushing the future of Junk’s forward thinking music policy in his position as chief artist booker and through his own DJ sets.

His confidence matched with his diversity and ability to read a crowd has led him to take over the decks before and after headline acts; Matthias Tanzmann, Dan Ghenacia, Josh Wink, DJ Sneak, Yousef, Heidi, Dyed Soundorom, Shonky, Lee Curtiss, Kerri Chandler, Layo + Bushwacka, Mr.C and many more whilst also representing at club nights including cIrCoLoCo, Circus, Zoo Project, Watergate, Moon Harbour, Ketoloco, Just Jack & Cocoon to high praise.

In 2008 and 2009 Luca held back to back residencies in Ibiza at Pete Tong’s “Wonderland” party and over the two years shared the bill with a long list of stars including Luciano, Funk D'Void and Groove Armada culminating in a headline slot in the back room on Radio 1's Ibiza weekend described by DJ Mag as musically the coolest room at the party.

Taking influences from the DJs he’s performed alongside Luca has manufactured his own blend of groove led house/techno and grown a strong reputation with his peers. No surprise then that he’s been invited to make trips across the country with dates in Leeds, Bristol for Just Jack and regular trips to London's nightlife scene with dates at underground venues Basing House, Egg, Cargo and Cable plus highly sought after slots for Mixmag’s exclusive "That Mixmag Thing" and Ketoloco's infamous Bank Holiday warehouse parties.

This summer will see Luca appearing at festivals in the UK, Croatia and at Exit festival in Serbia while later in the year will see an outing to Zoo Project’s inaugural festival which is preceded by a return to Ibiza with Junk Department not forgetting Luca’s Junk residency where he’s confirmed to spin alongside the likes of Seth Troxler, Waifs & Strays, Laura Jones and more.

Now, with his talent continuing to shine through and with a collection of strong productions being finalised for release it’s only a matter of time before he breaks out from the underground.
