Biography of Marcus Aurelius | | | Real name / | Marc Cabanatuan | | Moniker(s) / | Marcus Aurelius, Organized Crime |
Brewed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marcus’ sound is a mix blended from jazz, funk, house and soul. The soul
added being none other than his own.
His passion for music stretches back as far as he can remember. His roots were planted at a young age and his
enthusiasm for performance began with his earliest days in grade school. With a foundation based in classical
music Marcus developed a profound appreciation for diverse styles, scenes and genres.
A visit to his brothers college in 1998 introduced Marcus to Daft Punk's “Homework” and from there his direction
was set.
When he began DJ'ing, Marcus found inspiration sounds in the likes of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Cevin
Fisher, Jëno, Doc Martin, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Frankie Knuckles, Daft Punk, the Basement Jaxx along with
many others. Marcus' personal style began to take hold as he took those influences and stirred them together to
begin playing a funky, hard disco, Chicago based - dub dirty house music he could call his own.
A few years later and Marcus has added an arsenal of music, experience and creativity which finds him grooving
to deep house and deep tech house but wherever the music may take him Marcus will always have one foot
planted deep in House music.
Stepping out as a House producer and DJ in the Milwaukee Scene was not easy. It took a lot of hard work,
enthusiasm and persistence but demo after demo and show after show fueled both his ambition and humility.
To add to his list of qualifications, not only does he produce music, Marcus has produced and engineered a
weekly radio show with cohort Aaron of DAE Recordings on BreakThruRadio since 2007. With over 300,000
weekly listeners, it has brought in artists and DJ's from many walks of dance music from Andy Caldwell to Jay
West to Julius the Mad Thinker.
“If you have a fire in you about music but allow others to work off your passion and energy, there is no doubt you
will succeed.”
