Biography of Mark Kershaw | | | Moniker(s) / | Marky Ker |
Mark Kershaw has been playing in and around Manchester for the past few years under various guises and his love for music has held no boundaries in any particular genre. From an early age, Mark's main passion was for hip hop by the likes of The Roots, The Pharcyde and 2Pac, and at the age of 18 got himself a pair of decks. Originally a hip hop turntablist, Mark ran his own hip hop night in Manchester called M.O.E.T. (Music Orientated Entertainment Team) where he got to play a selection of old school hip hop and some of the latest underground releases of the time. His progression towards dance music came from his exploration of the club scene, mainly through nights liks Tribal Sessions/Red Light and Chibuku/Circus at the age of about 20. Alongside playing hip hop, Mark started to explore tracks from artists like Masters at Work and Danny Rampling, but was also heavily influenced by the likes of Jeff Mills and Dave Clarke, and by the age of 22, had established the 'Eat It' brand with fellow Rossi Froci. As well as house and techno, Mark developed and interest in Jungle, mainly the dark, scary and rowdy beats of artists like Dylan, Tech Itch and Twisted Individual. At the original 'Eat It' party, Phobia, Mark had a platform where he managed to fuse these various styles in long, 6 hour sets.
These days, Mark has settled into his own style of techno and minimal, with the sounds of his past explorations all prevalant in his sets today. Energetic and ecclectic, Mark tries to never play two seperate sets that sound the same. At Eat It's latest project, M_Theory, Mark (under the alias Marky Ker) has played alongside artists like Benno Blome, Perc and Autophase, allowing him to explore all avenues of his techno sound, ranging from the deep and dubby Cologne sounds to the more energy-fueled UK sounds that these artists are associated with.
2008 is looking to be a year for Mark to develop his style further with recent bookings looking to elevate him to a new plateau of exposure. Exciting times are ahead and he is eager for them to come. |
