Wed, 19 Jan 2011  /  Post a commentAmerican, specifically Texan, grows passion for electronic beats and minimal since young. As in a vision, in the years of high school, understands that his way is music. His choice could not be more apt: rapidly became one of the most masterful interpreters of electropop that soon becomes his “calling card”. we share some facts about him.
When do you develop a passion for music? Did you have a friend or family member who has inidizzato you on this road?
I grew up around my father’s music. He played guitar all of his life, and really showed me the passion for playing. Without his inspiration, I probably would not have went into a career of music.
In an interview, you said you were very influenced by Brien Eno, one of the most prominent exponents for the genre related to electronics and the ambient. What do you like his music in particular?
Brian Eno explores sound very deeply. We will take the time in the studio to make everything sound completely original and unique. Whether it is a guitar or a synthesizer, he really makes it sound like his own.
Your last Album is Black City, an album rich with meaning. Can music be an easier way to communicate emotions and concepts than words?
Absolutely! Music is covered in a strange way. Musicians are often asked to describe their creations with words, and talk a lot about the process. People end up using words for no reason, when the music should simply stand on its own. I don’t think painters are asked to describe their paintings. Description and analysis is the option for the viewer, not the creator.
In your album you speak of a timeless city that never sleeps, constantly moving, which people seem to machines without switch. It may be a warning to your modern times, where the rhythms of society are too supported?
I am careful not to say too much about this. I did not write “Black City” to be a sound track for an imaginary city. It represents a time in my life, living in New York and making music. There are a lot of modern hardships in New York, and a lot of machines. However “Black City” is not only about this. It is about the stress of everyday life, and the weight or pressure a city can have on people. I am sure Rome is also a Black City in this sense!
What do you think of fashion and trends in youth? These are also due to the way of making music?
Music and fashion are very connected in the youth.
During your set in clubs and fastivals, you show up very often under the pseudonym “Audion”. Why this name? There is a story linked to this and your other alterego (False, Jabberjaw)?
Audion came about by typing the word ‘audio’ too fast. I hit the ‘n’ key by mistake and liked the way it looked. There are other audions in the world. Software and scientific tools, but mine came about my accident. The music was very aggressive at the time, and the name felt correct. False is based on the idea that nothing is real, and that music can be a reaction to the artist, admitting that the artist doesn’t have very much control over the power to create. Jabberjaw is a cartoon shark from the 1970's.
