Biography of Michelle Owen | |
Michelle Owen has been involved in the music industry since the age of 15. From the electric
guitar to assistant sound engineer, her world was influenced from grunge and hip hop before
encountering her first house party on New Year’s Eve in 1999 with Danny Tenaglia. It was then,
Michelle saved for her first pair of turntables and not long after she was holding DJ residencies
in some of Sydney's best clubs.
Now, the Sydney-raised producer makes Berlin her home, like many other DJs and producers.
The city gives her the creative freedom and space to pursue and work with other like-minded
people.
It was in 2010 that Michelle proudly released her first single “What’s In A Name?” on Dirt Crew
Records collaborating with James Flavour. The went on to release her first EP “Swing It EP”
with UK label Lost My Dog with remixes from Pezzner and Murat Kilic. Soon after she released
a single “Strange Days” on Baker Street Recordings getting rave review from DJ Heather.
In October 2011, Michelle released 'Perchance To Dream' EP on Moodmusic with Chez Damier
remixes and it reached Beatport Top 20 Deep House chart and Traxsource Top 5. This release
gained Michelle some top exposure with a Mix Mag review giving her 8/10 and top support from
Ewan Pearson, Ashley Beedle, Luke Solomun, Graeme Park, Shonky, Detroon and more…
2012 marks a great start to her growing career, when she was invited to play at Panorama Bar
for a Moodmusic label night. In turn she remixed for Kruse & Nuernberg “Reminiscence” on
Moodmusic getting support from… Soon to add two more exciting event’s to her calendar she
combines her passion for skiing and music to play at Snowboming April 2012 and Watergate in
May.
An international citizen of the world, she has played at parties, clubs and festivals: Panorama
Bar (Berlin), Arena (Berlin), Love Parade (Dortmund), Ministry Of Sound (London),
Manumission (Ibiza), Electrosplash (Valencia), Field Day + Good Vibrations Festival (Sydney).
In cities such as Prague, Stockholm, Marseille, Shanghai, Adelaide, Melbourne, Rome.
In the past, Michelle worked behind the counter of Sydney record stores Central Station and
Savage Records, for years before hosting weekly radio programs on Rhythm FM and then FBI
radio which she co-hosted with (then) Australia’s number one DJ Kid Kenobi. Michelle misses
the atmosphere and plans to return to the radio in the near future. No stranger to the mic you
might recognize her voice from the Soundcloud tutorial videos.
In 2005, the White Isle of Ibiza had a marked effect on Michelle and by 2007 Michelle moved
there for the summer season, where she worked for Ibiza Rocks and DJ'd in Manumission’s
Circo Loco room. After a brief move to London to work with Ben Watt at Buzzin Fly Records and
Soho’s famed Phonica Records store, she was lured to Berlin with a job offer from Beatport.
The new decade promises to be the best year yet for the accomplished young DJ and
production talent.
