Marty Petza aka Mickey Nightrain began his dj / production career in his birthplace of Baltimore, MD after attending some of the most pivotal underground events on the East Coast of America. Dj Maximus was his first moniker in which he licensed his first tracks to the legendary Frankie Bones’ labels while scoring a runner up position in International Dj Magazine’s monthly mix competion. “The 22 year old captures the no shirted energy and rawness of the rave perfectly in this set...” cited the magzine in their July 2002 issue. Sevreal years later a change in sound and style was due for Maximus and he changed his name to the present Mickey Nightrain alias and held residencies from Baltimore to Miami, one as long as 5 years at a Nashville, TN after hours venue called Excess / Orbit. Not only a talented dj, but a true musician, Nightrain creates all of his productions on hardware drum machines, keyboards and synthesizers without the use of computer software also playing his a live p.a. “Groovebox Symphony” at select shows where no pre-recorded audio sources, laptop or DAT is used meaning eveything is mixed down in realtime, 100% live and sometimes fully improvised. As other djs and producers became more familiar with his sound Nightrain decided to create his own imprint, Nightrain Music and released “The Path EP” which testified his unique sound design to the world. In late 2006 with the decline of vinyl he realised that the music was going digital so he set up the label in this format to reach an even wider market and eventually recruited talented young producers from all corners of the globe. In February of 2007 he took top honor in the pages of Dj Mag’s “Pick ‘n’ Mick competition winning with his top selling tracks ”Crossover” and “The Lady Wearing White” which were featured in dozens of podcasts.
At the present time Nightrain Music has signed over a dozen artists and keeps growing
daily. Plans for the future include touring extensively in the United States as well as
other dates around the world. Nightrain will also focus on creating his debut artist
album in addition to releasing several high profile singles throughout 2008,
collaborating with various producers, singers and songwriters in the dance industry.
