Raised in London, UK, Mick James was born into a musical melting pot of diverse flavours ranging from house and garage to hip hop and classical.

Mick’s first genre of choice was U.S Garage. Taking influence from producers such as Todd Edwards and Tuff Jam, Mick went from playing at London’s largest Garage promotion ‘EXPOSURE’ (The Scala, Kings Cross) to presenting a drive-time show on the influential radio station SUBJAM 104.7 FM.

After initially playing the small clubs and bars of London from 1999 to 2004 it soon became apparent that Mick’s ability to choose the right record and to connect with his audience meant he was destined to play on a far grander stage.

Leaving behind the Garage scene in 2003 in search of new musical inspiration, Mick found his new home within the burgeoning House and Electro scene. This positive change in direction led to Mick playing in front of larger audiences and at some of the most respected venues in London. These included Ministry of Sound, Pacha, and Egg. Learning quickly to stand out in an over-saturated scene by crossing musical boundaries to offer something different from the rest of the pack, Mick became renowned for merging vocal and deep house with techno, whilst also embracing the newly emerging sounds of minimal house. Soon after this musical transition, a weekly radio show on the legendary Unknown 90.2 FM followed.

Having worked with a long list of leading promoters in recent years, Mick is now spending more time in the studio, as opposed to the dj booth, in an effort to make his own original productions. He can still be found preaching the deep and tech house gospel in and around London; at promotions such as MUAK, All Friends,
Set The Night On, and Read The Crowd.
