Biography of Mike Lennon | | | Real name / | Michael Lennon |
I began mixing in 1993, aged 13, playing house and techno and the following year i started to play out at the local and only nightclub in Penzance, The Venue (which is now called Exodus). I was heavily influenced by my favourite DJ’s at the time (Carl Cox, Joey Beltram, Sven Vath and Top Buzz to name a few) and growing up surrounded by older friends who were either DJs, Producers or promoters i learnt how to mix and soon enough got into producing house music as well. I played at countless free parties throughout the South-West as well as guest spots in a few small clubs and bars before moving north to Bristol where I found a new sound - drum & bass. Taking a huge leap I went to live with my father in the U.S. in 1996 but missed the scene and homeland too much and returned 6 months later. While attending high school there I caught the broadcasting bug playing on the school’s radio station where I introduced the San Rafael High School to drum & bass, breaks and house. On my return to England i really started to enjoy playing out and also changed my musical direction again by getting back into the sound that got me started, house music. After 13 years of playing out I have played at various types of events including, private parties, corporate events (Coca Cola, O2), clubs, festivals, free parties, internet radio as well as traditional analogue stations. I have also done the voice-overs for radio ads for a regular techno event, broadcasted on various pirate stations throughout the capital. I have been booked to play alongside artists such as Stanton Warriors, LTJ Bukem, Robert Babicz, Fabio & Grooverider, Jason Hodges, Kenny Hawkes, Glimpse, Alexander Robotnik, Chris Liberator, Rennie Pilgrem, Soul of Man and Precision Cuts. In February 2003 I started working at Intergroove, a worldwide distribution company distributing house, techno and breaks, and was was swiftly promoted to the sales office where I sold vinyl and CD's to independent record shops all over the country and abroad. My job also involveed A&R’ing material sent to Intergroove for potential distribution. Unfortunately in October 2006 the company went into administration and i was made redundant. After that i found work performing the same role at another distribution company, SRD, where i sold Dubstep and D n'B to independant dance shops up and down the UK. They didn't pay much so i moved again to Z Audio distribution where i sell House and Breaks over the phone to the shops up and down our fair land. I am also resident at one of Londons best house nights EBM (Electronic Body Movement) which we hold monthly in Egg club London and bi-monthly at 54, other residents include Darren Roach, JB, Charlie Shanks, Asad Rizvi, Paul Soul and we have had some of the best DJ's from around the globe as guests. Currently I am working on my own productions with a view towards starting a label. I have been writing and producing my own music since aged 14 and have my debut release coming out on Sector Four Audio, a remix of a track by Darius Syrossian and Tracker 5 called “Breakout”, which will be in stores in the summer. I also have another release planned for later in the year on the label Friends Electric which is based in Berlin but before that have four tracks coming out on Wut Eva Records, two on vinyl and two as downloads. After 13 years I have gained experience playing with vinyl, cd decks and computer based systems and am competent in their operation & potential uses. |
