Biography of Milly De Mori | |
| Moniker(s) / | DJ millydemori, DJ Milly DeMori |
Fascinated more with tecky sounds and funky basslines rather than with vocals, Milly De Mori finds her roots in house music in the late 80's, when hanging out in Ibiza she was first exposed to the 4/4's that changed her life.
Italian born living in Milan, Milly decided to move to NY in '93 where she spent 12 years, until 2005.
During her US stay Milly bloomed as a DJ and artist, and an effervescent 90’s New York dance scene with clubs like Sound Factory and Twilo, or Body & Soul or the teck house Matter-Form parties (with Adult Napper, Mr C) made an impact on her sound, shaping it into a true mix of electronic and organic elements and vibes thus creating a very personal style, which quickly found a great response in the hottest markets like NYC, Atlanta and Miami.
In 1999 Milly founded SoundSelective.com, a pioneristic online-only-radio station, that web-casted some of the best house, deep house, teck house and tecno music.
While offering a traditional program rotation of a variety of artists’ dj sets, in a joint effort with DubLab and out of their LA’s studios, SoundSelective radio was also web-casting once a week live DJ sets offering live images of the DJ playing alongside the audio.
Due to the WallStreet crash in 2001 and consequent fall of the Dot.coms', SoundSelective was forced to suspend the programming and streaming, and that left Milly De Mori free to pursue her DJ career and delve into music production.
In 2004, as electronica was taking over Europe, Milly decided to relocate to Italy to be closer in touch with the house and minimal teck house contaminations coming from Germany, France and Italy. Since her European come-back, Milly has quickly gained ground playing in some of the best clubs and cities like in Ibiza, Paris or Berlin, hosting her own radio show on M2O, putting out a number of Ep’s and remixes on labels like Presslab records, Dusk, KNR, Strike and soon on Malatoid, and founding her own record label SoundSelective Records.
Her career has taken Milly to share the decks with some of the best DJs like i.e. Francois K, Mauro Picotto, Miss Kittin, Alex Neri, Pete Bones, Stefano Fontana aka Stylophinc, Astro & Glyde, Paul Oakenfold, Presslaboys , Ptoile, Luca Doobie or Elio Riso, and playing in some of the best clubs worldwide like:
Tunisia (Cotton Club, Sensation Events), Ibiza (Space, Privilege), London (Hub), Paris (Pulp), Mexico City (Condesa DF Club), Berlin (Rechenzentrum), NY (Centro Fly, Sullivan Room), Miami (WMC 2002-2006, Opium Garden, Living Room, Nikki Beach, Cafeteria), SF (Supper Club), Milan (Magazzini Generali, 4Cento, La Messa), Germany (Karlshrue, Braunschweig), Istanbul (Special Event) Paris (VIP, Fashion Events), Moscow (Club XIII), Turin (La Gare, Chalet), Florence (Tenax), Bari (Divinae Follie, Clorofilla, Mavu'), Venice (Art Biennial Opening Party), Nevada- US (Burning Man), Atlanta (Eleven50, Riviera, Karma) and many more...
While working in different clubs throughout Italy and internationally, currently Milly holds a residency at the legendary La Messa parties in Milan.
In addition her weekly radio show MILLYBAR on M2O, Italy’s leader electronic radio station, has been growing an impressive audience in 7 years she’s been on air.
Currently she’s working heavily in the studio making music mostly solo, but occasionally joining forces with Luca Doobie (Off, Freerange, SoundSelective).
Lastly, in 2009 Milly started her own record label SoundSelective records with base in New York and distributed by Straight Distribution (Germany).
Besides herself, she's also featuring artitst like Luca Doobie, Monopolar, Alex Costa, PToile and Landed, and exploring the boundaries between Teck House, House and Tecno.
