It happens to wait with trepidation an album, not knowing what to expect from the artist. It’s what happened to many with “Monkeytown”, the last of Modeselektor. We did not know if there would be a return to the roots or a new “Happy Birthday”… The only thing we were sure about was that it would be an album eclectic and unpredictable. These are the duo certainties, certainties that are accompanying Bronsert Gernot and Sebastian Szary from the beginning. The two, after school, met up again during an illegal party in 1992 and they began working together as the “Fundamental Knowledge”, venturing in many different musical genres. Then, in 1996, the project “Modeselektor” was born. Another unique feature is definitely their special interest for collaborations. Over the years they worked with the collective Pfadfinderei, Ellen Allien, Apparat, Thom Yorke, Otto von Schirach, Siurismo and these just to name a few. We got in contact with Sebastian to talk a little of the history of Modeselektor, of their habits, of their city and their music, but also of their latest work that yes, it is certainly multifaceted and unpredictable, but it always has a constant sounds line at the base, line given by some precise choices of the artists. Talking about reworkings: what do Gernot and Sebastian think about an album of remixes?
