The most sun-drenched podcast of the season comes courtesy of Ivory Coast-native, Germany-based producer Mr Raoul K. Those of you who’ve been reading us for a while will no doubt remember that back in 07' Lelo and Mikhail were all about his sound, because it truly stood out from the minimal mass thanks to its brilliant combination of West African sounds and instruments with a more Western dancefloor approach. The Peul series on Raoul’s own imprint Baobab is a timeless collection of left-field cuts featuring a different instrument with each release. This got a lot of positive attention for Mr Raoul K, who went on to release his debut album on Japanese label Mule in spring of 2011.
Find yourself somewhere sunny, sit back and relax with this set. Raoul’s vision of the dancefloor will you make think twice about what afrobeat stands for.
