I'm a big fan of classic drum machines which all electro/techno and house was made on, like 808/909/or LINN, DMX.. Also I like some machines made in Berlin like Jomox and MF. Vakant's Nico Purman talks Drum Machines and Berlin Lifestyle with Sweat Lodge Radio.

Nico Purman, an artist born in Rosario, Argentina. A place that gives his handprint to the people that are so linked with that place, like Nico. Commercial city and hot spot of Argentina, Rosario makes his children cosmopolitan and open minded people, qualities thant in Nico Purman emerge clearly. Still young Nico starts his connection with the music, beginning to collect records. Michael Jackson, Belgian New Beat like Jade 4 U, Erotic Dissense are his first influences till the ’80. From that moment Nico was totally rapt by the Chicago Acid House movement. At seventeen Nico stardet playing drums, having also the possibility to record some stuff in some famous Buenos Aires’s studios. That experiences meant a lot for Nico, hand gives him the right background for the producer career. After this experience he reaches his final stage of maturation becoming a professional dj and one of the most respected artist of Agentina.

Like many of your colleagues to follow your passion you moved to Berlin. Why, in your opinion, Berlin appears to be the Mecca of electronic music?

The reason i’m moved to Berlin this year is because everything moved to this direction.
After my first release in Vakant, I came to europe for a couple of gigs arranged by the label, in 2008, then in 2009 i came 3 times again to europe for more gigs, always staying in Berlin and it was naturally, i really wanted to feel a place like home, and not travelling too far for a gig, like in the case of going back and forth to southamerica its kind of stressing for me. And also to have a permanent studio in one place is vital for me. So this is the reason im here now.

You were still young and you fell in love with the music, so many were your inflences: Michael Jackson, New Beat, Kurt Cobain,Depeche Mode,Ricardo Villalobos and many others. Can you tell us something about who inspired you during your career?

Lots of Artists, Bands, Djs, I listen all kinds of music at home all day, and i get inspired by many things i listen, could be new, old, it doesn’t matter.
Its boring to listen the same all the time. And now listen some old tracks you have an idea of how advanced and creative those artists has been for that moment.

We know that you started early to collect records, and if we listen to your sets we found a great variety of sounds. Why it is so important for you?

Its because im listening to all the releases week by week and try to select the best of them, and sometimes are copy of the past with a plastic sound, and sometimes its good to show the people that there was a time before this time, and the music was great and inspires the artist who follows and its like a chain.
I think the people should be more open to be surprised by the dj, and not to expect banging beats and shhhhhh. I mean i have nothing against it, but i dont fell anything with it. So that’s my reason i play what i really like. I want to be natural.

You have produced music for many labels all around the world, Argentina, Spain, France, Japan. Why this chioice?

Maybe because i thought it was the best place to release this kind of tracks by that moment.

And now you are focussed on Vakant. What can you tell us about your collaboration with this Berlin label?

Yes im focused on Vakant but also im producing lots of different music all the time, so i would like to release some other stuff i have in other labels too.

Last question, what is there in the future of Nico Purman?

Some remixes im finishing, i also have to finish some tracks for future releases, i’ve been making lots of sketches and ideas making during this time, and some collaborations with other artists too.
