Wed, 24 Nov 2010  /  Post a commentRaudive giving a roundup of hot releases for 2010
Oliver Ho aka Raudive had a pretty busy year 2010 with the launch of his imprint Wires, a Raudive artist album "Chamber Music" on Macro and a new project "Atlas" with Tommy Gillard. Besides that he has been travelling the world presenting his music to audiences all over the globe. Here is his Top 10 selection, part 2 of our roundup of releases for the year 2010:
Elektro Guzzi "Elektro Guzzi" [Macro]
Hearing this for the first time felt like a lot of different things had all come together in a very personal way. It really felt like they were coming from a unique place, but one that i understood and felt at home at. The label Macro is one i have recorded for and really admire.
JPLS "Reset" [Minus]
I love the JPLS stuff, its so super deep and dark, but not too obvious. Its very hypnotic, this paricular track has an amazing build over a pretty long track length, its something you can have going under lots of other things too, very adaptable.
The Fall "Bury" [Domino]
The fall are the fall, they can never be copied or equalled. The combination of Mark E Smiths vocals and the way he teaches or threatens the rest of the band to play in a certain way is incredible. There's always a unique vibe.
Chloe "One In Other" [Kill The DJ]
This is a great album, it seems to have alot of different influences but fuses them in a very original way, theres a very narcotic vibe which is powerful. I love the way the vocals are deep in the mix, and there's alot of strange quiet sounds in the mix.
Horizontal Ground "Snakes Cave" [HG05]
This track had me hooked, its a seductive groove and bassline that is impossible to resist dancing to. It's very hypnotic too, it represents what i love in Techno and House.
Matthew Dear "Black City" [Ghostly]
I love Matthew Dears stuff, the way he has evolved and explored new areas, fusing Post Punk, Indie, Electro and Techno. There's great songs here, with very interesting production technique, using alot of subtle sounds.
Actress "Splazsh" [Honest Jons]
This album has a great selection of ideas, i love the detroit style deep tracks, and also the tracks that sound almost Nu Wave/Electro. The Lo Fi sound makes it very intimate too.
Bob Holroyd "African Drug" (Four Tet Remix) [Phonica]
Four Tet has done alot of amazing remixes, this one has great percussion sounds interspersed with analogue riffs and melodies. It builds up amazingly too.
Tevo Howard "Material" [RushHour]
The melody at the start is beautiful, its then followed by some heavy drum programming and an Acid line. it changes and builds really well, i play this alot, its heavy deep and groovy!
Salem "Dirt" [!K7]
I love the haunting way this sounds, it has a very different approach to electronics that has more in common with Punk and Nu Wave. I like a lot of this style of music, dark and moody stuff!.
