Rebel C

Biography of Rebel C

Real name / Cleber Malheiro
Moniker(s) / Cleber Malheiro

Hailing from Santa Catarina, in the south of the musically fertile land of Brazil, Cleber Malheiro (formerly known as Rebel C) has always been fascinated by beats. Raised in a family where music has constantly been part of every day life, his interest for it blossomed while listening to a mixture of rock/samba/folk music and percussion instruments, from a tender age.

Starting playing guitar in his teens, following bands like The Smiths, A-Ha, The Cure, REM, as well as brazilian rock bands, his taste then switched to the likes of Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, which combined the electronic sound of the keyboards and synthesizers with electric guitars and bass guitars. It was in the mid-90s that his passion for electronic music really started, with acts like The Chemical Brothers, Faithless, Daft Punk, Fat Boy Slim, Moloko and Massive Attack. And from that, an interest about DJing: how to mix tracks together, how to make them sound like they never stop, how to make a continuous flow of music...

Cleber Malheiro's DJing style is characterised by long and tight mixes where the tracks smoothly blend into each other. His sets are filled with deep and tech house tracks with plenty of tribal elements: loads of percussion, deep and driving basslines, all an influence of his brazilian roots, although "pure" techno still has a special place in his vinyl/track collection.

A true follower of the House/Techno scene, Cleber Malheiro has played alongside Mark Henning, Kris Wadsworth, Darius Syrossian & Nyra, Cozzy D, Clint Lee, Mouj, Tommy-Four-Seven, Ricardo da Costa, Live Tech Rebelz, Jitter (Dynamic Brothers), Silky, Miss Mavrik, Renato Ribas, Nick Maleedy, Russell Caten, Luke Donington, amongst other up-and-coming talented DJs/producers.

Taking part along the years in projects such as "Excuse the Mess" at Egg and "Rebels in Hoxton" at The Hoxton Pony, he joined forces with the freshest talents in the London underground music scene and continues to do so, currently holding a residency at Genius, a party held on Sunday afternoons at the legendary "Public Life" club in London's Shoreditch, a venue close to the heart of many people in the London clubbing/electronic music scene. Cleber Malheiro also holds a residency at one of the most intimate deep/tech house nights in London, Uberbeat at The Doors, a club that is a true gem in the heart of Old Street. He also takes part in "Rebel Sessions", a party held at the Roadtrip Bar in London's Old Street.

In addition, he also enjoys having regular guest appearances at club "54" in Shoreditch.

With the aim of expanding his promising career, he has made a start with music production, with his first release scheduled for early 2010 through Uberbeat Records, one the most promising and up-and-coming labels at the moment, definitely one to watch!

Cleber Malheiro is known for his fresh and energetic style. From tribal and uplifting beats to tech-house and techno, he's been rocking crowds from Brazil, London and many more to come!
