Biography of Retrac | | | Real name / | Peter Carter | | Moniker(s) / | Retrac, Acid Casuals, |
Rewind to 2007 and it was at Ibiza’s seminal DC 10 that the elements of hedonism and sophistication entwined to leave their greatest impression on the young producer. It was there in the Balearic sunshine, during endless days of partying that Carter intensely studied the union of House and Techno – memorizing the make up of the tracks that ignited the club. After relocating to Leeds from North Wales, Pete delved deep into the city’s club scene, with the rushing intensity of Jamie Jones, Derrick Carter, Raresh and Daniel Bell leaving an indelible mark on his mind.
The fuse was lit at 14 by Berlin Love Parade tapes and by age 17 Retrac had developed a formidable range of skills that would see him rocking house and techno crowds from London to Northern England and Wales. Combining his hedonistic urges with the subtle sensibilities of space and texture, with each production Retrac looks to push both his own boundaries and the genre he loves. Either flying solo or combining with long term friends Dudley Strangeways or Cian Ciaran from Super Furry Animals as the Acid Casuals, Carter looks to apply deep musical sensitivities with a raw outpouring of energy.
His style has seen him signed to Resopal Shchallware and Tiefschwarz’ new Souvenir Plus imprint alongside names that just a few years ago were far away idols. After becoming a member of the Indigo Raw family (Barcelona), Carter has had his work remixed by the likes of Rio Padice and Freak N Chic's Djebali, whilst gaining the support of Steve Bug, DJ Koze, Hot Chip and DJ Sneak along the way. Hours spent on the dance floor have primed Retrac’s ability to easily move between soaring, driving techno and chugging, grooving deep house, pooling his influences and whipping them up with a commanding musical understanding. With a host of musical projects lined up ranging from producing bands to more collaborations with other artists, Retrac continues to explore his world of music, each discovery serving to further establish himself as a genuine force.
