Souvenirplus continues its streak of house releases for 2011, with the Venezuelan tag-team of Romero & Jauregui stepping up for the label’s 12th release. They take to the distinctive Souvenir sound of upbeat deep house, like ducks to water: a steady roll of brushed snares, funky bassline and various clicks and purrs envelop the track, as if lost within the steamy jungles of their native country. This builds up around a yearning vocal, with as much of a gospel flavour as of classic Chicago, the track’s title ‘Growing’ reminding us of the organic nature of music. Fronds of bass and rich vocal foliage softly settling down within our eardrum. Souvenir family favourite, Santé, bangs up the tribal beat on his remix, upping the tempo and sweat quotient. He distends the vocal, adding reverb and teasing it in and out of the track through EQ trickery. New kid on the block, Kenny Leaven, psychs the track out, adding a clap-along beat in the background, with a soulful croon at the fore building the tension. A wobbly synthline vibrates throughout while skittering drums hold attention.
