By 2000 Russ had relocated to Germany, where he has remained ever since, working on numerous remixes as well as new material on his own new label Sestra and the likes of Swiss Morris Audio, U.K. Pariter, Berlin’s mobilee Records and Dieb Audio. His "Knossos EP" is out now. Here is his selection for "3 Things People Play":
Russ Gabriel is a name synonymous with U.K. Techno, with his first full release coming out in 1993 on his newly formed Ferox label. Russ went on to record for most of the major techno imprints of the 90’s: Carl Craig’s Planet-E, Peacefrog Records, DJAX-Up-Beats, GPR, Force-Inc, Soma Recordings, New Electronica and Dave Clarke’s Magnetic North. Russ initially set up his studio to make dub, but was soon converted to the electronic side of things by the early nineties radio shows of Colins Faver and Dale. House of Jezebel "Love & Happiness" [RushHour]
This is such a beautiful example of what house music is all about. The old school drums sound really gritty on this one. The vocals are really super sexy and the way they interact with the strings is really emotional. The music in this really reminds me of all the stuff that came out of the Netherlands about 20 years ago. That was what got me into house music in the first place. This is a perfect final record.

SoulPhiction "Some Things Remain" [Philpot]
It's really nice to hear some great music coming out of Stuttgart. Soulphiction does the business as usual with this one. As well as several releases on Philpot worth seeking out, I can recommend the Missing Linkx stuff he is involved in too.

Samuli Kemppi "Quantum Mechanics EP" [Mote Evolver]
This record shows how to make the most of just a handful of sounds and morph them into something full on. It's kind of dark and atmospheric but really perfect for the dancefloor too. The bass sound is really hollow and spacious and shows that character is more important than just outright thudding. This is a record from the heart.
