Sebastian Herre is a young, charismatic and talented Producer and DJ, currently of Berlin residence, whose releases on San Fransico's Nightlight Music, italian Zooloft and his own Produkt Schallplatten invoke a passion with music that is not often found these days. Strongly influenced by artists like Jeff Mills, Samuel L. Session, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Hamilton Bohannon, Fela Kuti and Herbie Hancock, Sebastian's long relationship with music was bound, and his story began to unfold.
Sebastian is really interested in how his music comes across to others. Aware of the important difference between creator and listener, his music represents a fusion of sound where different aspects of the music styles he loves are equally represented and mixed together. In his DJ sets you'll find him using the element of surprise, mixing tracks you haven't heard before in that context, and not being afraid to test the crowd's reactions. He's not focused on only one music genre, he loves many styles, from Techno to Disco, Jazz to Classical and beyond, and this is well represented in his unique productions.
Personally he produces most of his current music using hardware only; jamming and sequencing live, trying to give the music his own view, finding loops and grooves which sound different and stand out from the crowd. In 2006 he lanched his own label Produkt Schallplatten to release the music of his friends and musicians he respects. Now on its 4th vinyl release, the label has accumulated followers far and wide thanks to its fresh and colourful approach to modern electronic music. Sometimes other friends get involved and they all jam together, often recording hours of improvised sessions which can then be edited into individual tracks.
Out of these sessions the Human Interaction project was founded; the intricate and funky results of which can be found on Produkt 004. This latest Produkt record, hand-stamped and delivered directly to outlets by Sebastian and his colleagues, reflects a new humanist approach to the vinyl format. Some of Sebastian's goals for the future include continuing to release music that takes more risks, stretching himself and not sticking to the norm, and to work out a live set where he can include more of the hardware that makes up his studio setup.
