Biography of Sid LeRock | | | Real name / | Sid Le Rock | | Moniker(s) / | pan/tone, gringo grinder, Sid Le Rock |
Sid LeRock was born and raised in the northern regions of Ontario, Canada. Moving constantly from one small
town to another cold and desolate town due to his fathers search for work as a uranium minor / lumberjack. Sid
left the family cabin to make the move of his own. First to Windsor where it was there, in the neighboring city of
Detroit that he first made contact with Techno music during its famous underground warehouse parties. He then made the jump to the big city of Toronto to study music engineering. It was there that he become more involved in techno as a life choice career rather then just as a avid listener. Feeling that itch to move again, as it was a thing that seemed natural for him to do based on his upbringing. Sid LeRock made the overseas voyage to Cologne, Germany in 2003. He was in the first wave of the North American invasion to Europe.
The success and demand for his music allowed him to live in Europe since then, where he presently resides in Berlin. Sid has been producing as well as performing live since 1998. His unique brand of music, which blends modern dance floor electronics with rock n roll esthetics is what makes his music sound so explosive and captivating to the ears. You can feel all levels of raw emotion with Sid’s need to express this through melody and what he claim’s as “the human error factor”. He says, “no matter how well you think your in sync with the crowd, its best when the unexpected digital hiccups occur. Then, thats when I feel most connected to everyone. The errors and how you have to quickly recover from them is what proved to be my best performances. People just want to hear the human behind the machines.”
2004 came with the debut album of Sid LeRock, entitled “Written in Lipstick”, which was signed to Ladomat.
One of Germany’s most renowned imprints but was then handed over the Mute Records to administer. For Sid,
this was a tremendous honor to be an artist for a label that influenced him with its impressive roster of artists.
Much of his success came from Written in Lipstick, for it was this album that first premiered his signature
sound. A sound that opened many doors for his career.
“Keep it Simple, Stupid” was his follow up album for 2006. It was equally impressive and brought some great
attention even despite the labels financial crisis. For both Mute/EMI and even more so for Ladomat. where it went completely bankrupt. It was the first sight of that crack in the wall that would soon effect many other music businesses. There was no monies to promote his 2nd album, so the music had to speak up for itself.
In 2006, Sid LeRock started his own imprint, Cereal/Killers, distributed via Kompakt. A concept based label
that came as a series of split releases involving him and his talented friends (Ada, Misc.,DJ Koze, Gabriel
Ananda, Metope, Reinhard Voigt, etc) to produce records together. Which came with a long run of successful
label showcases to have all friends perform together in clubs and at Festivals.
In late 2009, he co-founded Beachcoma records along with long time friends, Jake Fairley (aka Fairmont) &
Metope. The three members started this artist run label as a means to release their own music that they feel
strongly about and think should be heard. It’s a personal project that they simply wanted to enjoy together but
most importantly, not take it so serious. After a hand full of release thus far, the success of Beachcoma is
continuously rising. Totally unexpected to them?..or perhaps all part of the plan?.
Its been a long wait since Sid LeRock’s last album in 2006. However, in fairness to him it doesn’t mean that he’s been getting caught up with the Berlin night life. Apart from his other alias, Pan/Tone. He’s been quit busy with a steady output of releases. 2008 saw his last album as Pan/tone “Skip the Foreplay”.
2010 brings forth the return of Sid LeRock. His new album “Tout Va Bien” is already in full production and is
set to be released in early July, 2010, on Shitkatapult Records. “The perfect match made in heaven” many have
said along with quotes from label owners, T.Raumschmiere & Daniel Meteo both declaring “Its about time Sid
LeRock comes home to us!.
