Biography of Simon Beeston | | | Moniker(s) / | Nima + Beeston |
Auckland is the biggest town in New Zealand, with a million residents and two beautiful coastlines. The city is dominated by its harbour, volcanic hills, and the fast moving clouds that bring all kinds of weather. Simon Beeston hails from this place in the Deep South, but now calls Berlin home. Drawn by his love of electronic dance music and the cities unique feeling of creativity and musical passion, Berlin seemed an obvious choice for an artist whose ambitions aim well beyond the South Pacific.
While living and working in China, Simon was so disturbed by the lack of quality music in clubs that he started playing it himself! After moving back to New Zealand he discovered his friends had also developed a passion for house and techno music and got together to promote a series of parties and club nights. With a focus on quality music and DJ’s unwilling to compromise their musical tastes, the parties laid a platform for a small but vibrant scene.
Simon’s first visit to Berlin in 2004, when he played in at various clubs, including a set at Tresor’s Globus, was a catalyst for his return to play Sylvester 2005, and then move to Berlin permanently in 2006. The unique party culture and the vast array of musical expression in the city are a huge inspiration to any new artist and Simon Beeston is no exception. You can often find him jumping around the dancefloor or talking nonsense with his friends at the bar until the last record spins!
Simon has been producing music for about six years and continues to push his sound in new directions. Influenced by house, techno and minimal, it would be difficult to put his music into any one category, but his tracks always have both feet on the dancefloor and a unique array of samples and sounds. As a DJ Simon plays a bionic and club rocking mix of tech house, techno, minimal and house music and always seems to be right there with the dancers on the floor.
2008 was a great year, with two releases on the District of Corruption label, a release with Highgrade Digital, and another vinyl release with Bond Records. January 2009 sees 'Idle Housewives' appear on Highgrade and more tracks coming in the following months.
